Topic: what is your favourite longtrack ? Posted: March 05 2005 at 09:57 |
hi
sorry in advance for not including some important progrock-longtracks but my question is which of THOSE longtracks is considered everyone's favourite.
but anyway - feel free to mock me for not including YOUR favourite long-tracks.

Suppers Ready for me.
Hackett's guitar on the live version is great. Pity the tuneless one sings on it.

Given these choices I went for Starless. Other favourite long tracks are Hamburger Concerto ( Focus ), Suite ( Omega ), Fire Water Earth & Air ( Jane ), Crises ( Mike OldfIeild ) and the Live version of Perpetual Change by Yes from the 1973 Yessongs LP to mention but a few.

Echoes, of the ones listed.
What is the cut-off point of 'long" by the way? Depending on
definition, I would have liked to see Cinema show (Genesis), Grendel
(Marillion), Shine on you crazy diamond (PF) and The ninth wave (Kate
Bush).

good point
i forgot Crazy Diamond - but it think that echoes is "the" representative long-track for pink floyd - so no need for crazy diamond. i also forgot cinema show i have to admit but i also have to admit that i have never heard grendel and the ninth wave - shame on me.

I went with Echos. I like the moody stuff "Remember US" by Pineapple Theif is also a favorite of mine, although not a classic.

long-reck by definition (of me and noone else) is 15 minutes; or better one half of the vinyl (you can also have a "filler" like horizons-don't get me wrong- or providence on it but it shouldn't shine out the diamond)

If I hadn't voted for Starless, it would have been the Gates of Delerium. With Supper's Ready a fairly close contender.
