I second The Bad Plus.
Also; Helmet of Gnats, Vital Information, Phil Miller's In Cahoots, and a great fusion band from Cuba called Mezcla. The Johansson Brothers move between fusion and prog rock, and if you ever come across a recording by electric violinist Mark Wood, worth a listen. And of course the ever passed-over Planet X. |

hmmm again i think i mentioned such an issue in a previous thread on new artists that keep the fusion flag alive......but will be more than happy to add on to this.............
my interest is not just in pure jazzrockfusion artists per se but those who draw from the richness & spirit of the tradition and incorporate it into their sound: Tortoise Isotope 217 Chicago Underground Trio/Quartet Mandarin Movie Shining Supersilent Phantom City Audun Kleive & Generator X Wibutee i esp love the work of the Chicago-school and the Norwegians..... |

Yes .. and infact they were 'banned' in the U.S. till just a few years ago. They are Carlos Santana's favorite Latin jazz-rock band, album 'Akimba!' on Khaeon. ![]() |

OK gentlemen, I'll start looking these up and start to add to my collection and of course. Establish some constructive criticism. I'd love to listen to Mezcla. I'm a big Carlos Santana Fan.
PS Keep them coming |

Tony R has already suggested its a name conjured up for the jazz section of the Fast Show, with YouTube footage as well.
However, you should have listened to my radio show over the last 4 Thursdays

Oh.. then it's better to say Cuban-based fusion than a fusion band from Cuba.. got to try it out, too

I already downloaded Hectic Watermelon and Mezcla CD is on its way. So I'll check them out. I'm doing my MA and have little time to listen while I study but, a little background music does help. BTW, I found Mezcla web site http://www.mezcla.org/ . Are all of their CD cool, or are their once better then others?

Just received an excellent promo of world fusion (Turkish/Middle Eastern), by Nicholas Maier a guitarist influenced by Al DiMeola, Yuz (on Naim Records). Gilad Atzmon supplies woodwind.
