My favourite music is the 1972-1974 incarnation of King Crimson. What music has a similar sound or way of doing things like this version of KC? I already know (a.o) the music of Anekdoten, Nebelnest, Djam Karet and Akineton Retard. With this in mind, what can you recommend me?

I never heard any of the groups you've mentioned (except for King Crimson themselves, of course), therefore I don't know whether what I'll say will be relevant for you or not.
I heard once an album by the Canadian group Boud Deun, which is called The Stolen Bicycle (though didn't buy it). The music in this album seemed to me to be rather in the same mood as the KC 72-74. If you want, you may give them a try. I don't call it recommendation, however, since I'm not fully acquainted with the Boud Deun material.

The Polish band Indukti has many bits reminiscent of Red era KC. As for Boud Deun, I have Astronomy Made easy, and while there is some similarities I don't think it is too good of an example.
There are more, but I got to go now...

Alquilbencil, Spanish band. Definitely worth checking out. From Serengethi to Taklamakan in particular is a beauty of an album.
Dificil Equilibrio are very good, but heavily influenced by 80's style Kc.
Also, if the intensity and rawness of '73-'73 Kc jams appeal to you, you might want to try Guapo or maybe even Don Caballero.
I'm sure there are more, but they're not coming to mind now.

This one is what the early 70's King Crimson would sound like if Keith Emerson was on board.
The closest I've heard to the mid 70s King Crimson sound is KC violinist David Cross on his solo albums.
 His latest features a vocalist that is a combination of Adrian Belew and John Wetton.
Also:
 Sylvian Fripp's Damage, with Trey Gunn and Pat Mastellotto. This should have been a version of King Crimson.
Check out Trey Gunn's solo albums. There is a lot of KC in those recordings.

There's a new band from Puerto Rico called Astrid Pröll and their mayor influence in their debut is King Crimson. You can check out one of their song in the stream player at the home page. It's the #15.

hehehe what i like abt 72-74 KC (besides the awesome songs) is the muscularity, rawness, power and inventiveness of the rhythm section, and of course the improvs......
so with that i highly recommend you check out Supersilent's works, namely 1-3, 4 and 5. Not exactly the same musical style but its the vibe and feel that counts........

Believe me it isn't. They have a very elective style combining everything they like and trying not to sound like copies (except in some songs in wich they sound like KC). I haven't heard Rush that much, but the song the have for streaming sounds alot like Lark's era KC. |

I don't know anything by this band, but their name is very funny.

Astrid Proll is indeed a good recommendation for KC influenced bands.
As for the name, well... here's where it came from (and it is a bit far away from the xmas analogy):

Astrid Proll was the younger sister of Thorwald Proll, who participated in the April 1968 bombing of two Frankfurt department stores with Gudrun Ensslin, Andreas Baader, and Horst Söhnlein. Astrid Proll joined Ensslin and Baader soon after they became fugitives from the law in 1970 (her brother Thorwald was soon dumped from the burgeoning gang soon thereafter). Proll was arrested in May of 1971 but escaped and fled to England. She was found in England in 1977 and extradited. Once back in Germany, charges against her stemming from her original arrest were dropped when it was learned that the state had withheld evidence that would have cleared her. " |

King Crimson's '70's period (especially first two albums) was in my special attention for a time; I desperately searched for a similar sound (because I didn't appreciate their '80's albums, just for then!) and noticed Van der Graaf Generator. The basic similarity was Jackson's masterful sax playing, but master Fripp's appearance in two albums should not be overlooked. I know, VdGG is not quite like the "Wetton-era" Crimson, but still there's a common point: in their "heavy" and slow approach, especially prominent in VdGG's Godbluff album. If you're also (at least a bit) into first-stage Crimson, you might like that and the others, especially The Least We Can Do..., H to He..., Pawn Hearts, Still Life, and World Record. And coincidentally, VdGG's first official live album "Vital" also bears a little resemblance. Also, a couple of tracks from Hammill's solo albums, only from '73-'74 period... |

ARe you familair with the Roxy Music track Bittersweet from Country Life? Parts of Il Balletto Di Bronzo's Ys also bear some resemblances to Wetton era KC (Completely diifferent vocally though).
