Any other Trek fans (original series) out there? There have to be! Have you seen the restored episodes?-- they're amazing looking and they've added tiny changes here and there that work beautifully; better looking phasers, effects, sounds, etc. And the Gorn's eyes blink!

I haven't seen the new restorations, but my friend has them as boxed sets. I'm a big fan of the 60's series, and also the films with the first crew were my favorites as younger. I didn't like Next Generation + other warm up's of the thing though, the original characters were just too important for me (+ the aestethics of 60's)

I've got the first season on DVD, but I have no idea if it's restored or not. I wouldn't say I'm a fan, but it's a good series.

^ IMO the best feature of the box sets is the audio comentary for selected episodes ... they explain what went wrong during shooting the episode, how they achieved certain effects while keeping the budget low, and hint you towards bloopers or subtle inconsistencies (for example a transporter technician wearing glasses in one shot, and none in another).

Yeah, I'm a big Star Trek fan, to be honest I like ALL the Trek series and movies.
The Sci-Fi channel have been re-running TOS at 7pm weeknights for a while now and it's the first time I've seen them in years.
Some episodes have moved into the 21st century quite well whilst others IE: Spock singing with a bunch of hippies look very dated now.Smile
Unfortunately I don't think these Sci-Fi channel reruns are the re-touched episodes. Cry
I would like to see one of these 'new' episodes, wonder if they will be shown on a TV channel sometime soon?

^ I'm currently renting the DVDs from Amazon ... I can only recommend this to any fan. In Germany I pay €13 for 4 DVDs/month - that means that I can watch 16 episodes for €14 = less than €1 for each episode.

I should've known there'd be Trek fans here! I hopped on board with the original series and enjoyed some of the offsprings also but not as much as STOS. I haven't seen the redux versions but will now be looking for them. Thanks for the info.

That's wild. I just watched the "Gorn" episode on T.V. the other night. I saw the blink, and remarked how I had never noticed that before.

I think I read somewhere that they're doing further digital enhancements for a high definition release. Maybe that's what Atavachron means?

"Why say it cannot be done.....they'd be better doing pop songs?"

Yes, and the enhancements are so tastefully done- not intrusive to the integrity of TOS and just the right amount; Norman's belly now has moving parts that look real instead of that cardbord cut out they used; the Enterprise looks gorgeous and all the planets now look real and astronomically correct; and Spock is that subtle shade of green Roddenberry always wanted.

The Original Series is the only Star Trek I know and love. I purchased season one about three years ago and paid about $75 for it, and I just picked up Season two and three and paid $35 each. I've been watching season two and just watched "Catspaw" the other night. I have to say they look incredible on DVD.
