Topic: sound systems Posted: March 10 2004 at 07:04 |
a basic question to start what system are you playing your music on? most of my music on computer is run through on board sound(asus p4s8x-x mobo running six channel ac97 codec for 5.1 surround running through logitech z640 5.1 surround speakers(GREAT inexpensive...logitech have a good rep...SPEAKERS though a little flat in the midrange)) my cd,s and such are played on a very basic sharp surround system which is adequate but not great BUT I HAVE DREAMS.......!!!

OOOOOHHHHH
A real guys-toys thread!!!
CD's etc played through an ancient (but excellent) Phillips deck, via a Sherwood amp, through Gale '5i' speakers & an Eltax sub-woofer (the bass pedals on the live version of 'Firth Of Fifth' now shake the walls!!!)
I also have a Limit record deck (which, alas gets very little use these days) & an Aiwa cassette deck(remember cassettes??) which I bought when I upgraded a couple of years ago, but has never actually been used......

GOOD one, Jim! Ha! I must write more in the "Killer Robot" (Rideoutside your door) thread. Been thinking about it, but not tonight.
Me? My "good" stereo (Pioneer Receiver/Pioneer cd/Celestion spkrs/Sony deck, nothing too fancy) is all "crapped out." Need new cd (DVD!) player, + tweeter(a 2nd set of speakers + sub would be nice!)
Not to worry, Temporary Fix: I bought a $350 (CDN) Sony compact system (cheap because made in China -- by enslaved Nobel prize-winning dissidents, no doubt!) that packs two speakers with double drivers, a sub, a 3-disc changer that plays MP3s, remote, and "360 Watt" total power output. (It's loud, but clear -- though sometimes, especially with newer prog with lots of bass, I have to turn off the sub, as it has no separate vol. control.)
Dream system? Computer, DVD/MP3 player, powerful "home theatre" surround spkrs, big screen, high-res TV (usually off!) for cool computer/DVD etc. video "effects," ludicrously-stocked beer cooler fridge (+ twiggy beer, babycham, marsu-pee-ale and private "FTL" UFO for Jim & Dude's visits -- BYO vegemite; no smoking in the house, James!) a reclining chair that doubles as a toilet, a gallon of ice cream, a bucket of chicken, an extra-large meat lover's pizza, a bacon double cheeseburger, liposuction, and a triple-coronary bypass!
Pulsing lights! Uh, like wow Dude.Tie me kangaroo down!

Wot!! no smoking in the house!?! How the devil do you expect your children to pick up such a glorious habit if you don't smoke in front of them? Don't you WANT your clothes, furniture, children, pets etc to smell like used ashtrays?? What's wrong with you man? (cough, wheeze, cough!)
Vegemite?? a poor relation to that king of food, MARMITE
I shall bring my own Parker-Knowle Reclining Commode "bottom fallen out of your world? then relax in this new design and let the world fall out of your bottom" - I should have been an advertising copywriter....

OK you guys, read it and weep....
My office sound is a Sony Viao computer with a Soundblaster Audigy soundcard driving an Altec Lansing 2 + 1 speaker set.
But the best part is my main stereo set up -
JVC 4-way monitors modified with Pile Driver Pro 14 inch woofers driven by a Carver 400 watt per channel stereo amp.
A BSR 18 inch subwoofer driven by a dbx 100 watt mono subwoofer amp.
An absolutely silent Kenwood preamp - with a 10 channel Audiosource graphic equalizer.
A Marantz AM/FM tuner using a Parsec Arc directional antenna.
A Sony 5 disk carousel CD player and a Sony dual drive, dual motor cassette deck.
A Pioneer manual control turntable with an aftermarket arm and cartridge.
And last but not least, a Drake PRN 1000 shortwave reciever with an 80 foot, 9 guage copper wire antenna.
I also listen to a big Sony "portable" shortwave reciever in the office.
And that works for me.

Yes, Stormy Weather, as a size 12 Canadian (much bigger shoes sizes here!), I do know what they say:
"Big feet -- big shoes!"
Ha! Put that in yer poncy hi-fi and smoke it!
(PS: I'm responsible for the legends of "bigfoot" around here!)
