Topic: Credibility Posted: October 17 2006 at 10:00 |
I do not know if anyone feel like i do regarding the evolution of this site but it seems to me like it's at a crossroad. If this is a real forum, anyone should be able to share their thoughts on any subject, even though it has been discussed before. The administrator, I guess, closed my topic. Well, i do not mind, but you should tell me so first. Then again i reached a cord in some souls since people shared my wondering... So why close it, really? If you want this site to have any credibility at all, accept any opinion any thread even on similar subs and above all things get rid of non prog band in a prog site!!! If you get Maiden in then get Led Zep too or neither of them, but please be logical! I know perfection is not possible but... Anyway, if you do want to have credibility there is some cleaning up to do.

^ those are two issues in one:
- Closing of duplicate threads - Led Zep / Iron Maiden
They are not related in any way ... and you should try to keep them separated.

There is one topic here and it's credibility! You should look for the big picture Al!

You should look at other forums too - to get the big picture on the deletion of duplicate threads. As for the Led Zep / Iron Maiden problem - if you continue to get back to that then all you'll achieve is to get this thread closed as well.

^ closing the thread doesn't mean you're not allowed to talk about the subject - it just means that you should use one of the threads that already exist.

You're new to this forum so you wouldn't be aware that the issues of adding Led Zeppelin and Iron Maiden have been discussed here many times. The point that Mike is trying to make is that you can discuss Led Zeppelin on one of the many threads that are already open - nobody is trying to stop you talking about them. Led Zeppelin will only be added to this site if the majority think they should and the admins and owners of the site think they should be added. There is no reason why they should be in just because IM are. That's just your opinion. And I think you'll find this site does have credibility.

The other point is Alexander that every forum has rules and guidelines. Is is not only a matter of credibility, but of good manners that you endeavour to observe these.
You have posted in the forum just 8 times, yet you have managed to start three new threads in the wrong place. You placed a thread about Led Zeppelin in the Prog Music lounge. That section is only for bands listed on the site. You then posted a complaint about our thread being closed in the same section.
Now you have started this thread in the "How do I.." section, yet you are not asking how to do anything!
The administrator who closed our LZ thread posted an explanatory message before closing it explaining the reason it had been closed. Many of the members of this forum, who unlike yourself joined the forum prior to today, find it tiresome to read new threads about matters already being discussed in other threads. In order to focus discussions, especially about proposed band additions, it is far better to have a single thread for that proposal.
I am interested in your assertion that the site is at a crossroads. Given that you registered with us today, you seem to be very quick to jump to conclusions about our site. You are of course welcome here, but if you you take the time to read our rules and guidelines, I am sure your stay will be far more mutually beneficial to you and to the site.
...And if you wish to discuss the adding of Led Zeppelin to the site, the powerful search facility will guide you to a number of open threads where you may do so.

oy vey!you're thread got closed because you embraced a topic already done, already said, already discussed etc. it's a common mistakes people like you, who are new, can make. I don't see what the big case is. Don't divagate on this. moreover, is this the image you really want to have, as a forum's new member and a shortly initiated. a mild policy doesn't make offence to nothing.

Why don't you wait until you have experienced the forums for more than a day, before making the assumption that there is something wrong going on.

I'll offer a different perspective. I'm relatively new to the forum (as I only started visiting the site regularly at the beginning of October 2006 - this month), and I too had troubles starting forums in the right place (still do, in fact, on occasion), and starting topics that have already been done (again, still do on occasion). However, rather than complaining about credibility, I learned more about the site, and where to put things, an my mistakes have gotten less and less common over time. This would be the appropriate path to take, Alexander.
