I am close to deciding that i would like to purchase the great deceiver box set. I also almost bought USA. I wanted to listen to some 73-74 crimson. Do USA and TGD boxset have the same versions of the same songs? I know that the 74 asbury park show is mostly on USA. Is the great deceiver worth buying?

And along those lines, what would you guys recommend in terms of King Crimson DVD's? I'd actually like to get something from The Power To Believe tour, if there is one available. The only other one I have is Neal And Jack And Me.

I believe I can be of assistance.

The Great Deceiver is one of the best documents of the Wetton/Bruford era that exists.  Of course, you'll also want the studio albums from that period so you can see why the live cuts are so special...  Larks Tongues, SaBB, and Red.

As for DVDs...  Eyes Wide Open is an incredible deal, containing TWO DVDs.  One from the Power To Believe tour, and one from the previous ConstruKction of Light tour...  I wholeheartedly recommend it!

I did just buy Deja Vrooom off ebay for $10.00 (really want to check out the triple trio lineup), and am looking into Eyes Wide Open. That's the one I really want.

I highly recommend the Great Deciever.  I have found I listen to a lot of the live cuts on there more than the studio cuts!

I don't have it, but I am currently looking for it. It looks like an amazing set, and most of the reviewers rave about it. Definitly something to look for as a KC fan.

Order it used from amazon for the best price, or direct from DisciplineGlobalMobile if you insist on new.

It's almost the best Crimson album! GO GET IT! I also recommend the Night Watch, same caliber, only less songs on it.
Epic.

It's the most comprehensive release by the band, and the book included is wonderful. I think I have the older version of it, and I think that the re-print done around millenium change is slightly different?

Great Deceiver is crucial to gettin a full handle on 73-74 Crimson....thats their most intense period......

for DVDs, i really like the Deja Vroom dvd, such a treat to watch the mighty dbl trio and their horrid leftover 80s jackets heheheh.....

Eyes Wide Open is great too though the sound on the 2nd dvd kinda sucks.....
