Another German to come out of the early '70s
On their debut album, Nine Days Wonder play fairly complex heavy progressive rock with obvious nods to the Mothers of Invention. I find them also comparable in style to bands like Lagger Blues Machine and Moving Gelatine Plates. There is an almost non-stop variation in moods and tempos. The album features some blistering guitar riffs/solos and great saxophone playing. Flute and piano occur sporadically as well. A superb, energetic album with a raw psychy edge, and essential listening if you like bands mentioned above.
The band went on to produce 5 albums in total.
Nine Day's Wonder (1971)
We Never Lost Control (1973)
Only The Dancers (1974)
Sonnet To Billy Frost (1976)
The Best Years of our Life? (recorded 1971-1975?; released 2001)
