I stayed up to watch it and Joe was absolutely devastating. I've never understood the general perception amongst the boxing fraternity that Calzaghe has dodged the better fighters to stay at the top. Roy Jones Jr didnt want to know even when he was at his prime and everyone seems to forget how he dismantled Chris Eubank much in the same way as he did Lacy.
It was thrilling watching this master craftsman at work, and the ref should have stopped the fight if only to spare us the banshee wails emanating from Lacy's girlfriend.
Two friends of mine, neither of whom are boxing experts but like a gamble, both bet £500 (!!) on Lacy based on press footage this week showing him to be supremely confident and looking ready to pound Calzaghe. I implored them to either not bet,or put their money on Joe. They've learnt an expensive lesson-it's what goes on in the ring on fight night that counts.
Hopefully Joe will have one more pay day then retire and rest those fragile but devastating fists of his.
