100 Important (prog-related) albums

No mischief here  BUT ...

Was wondering what a list of 100 important (prog-related) albums by non-prog artists would look like ... using artists that may or may not already be in the site, but a maximum of 1 album per artist

2) Deep Purple - Concerto For Group And Orchestra
3) Queen - A Night At The Opera
4) Andrew Lloyd Webber/Various Artists - Jesus Christ Superstar
5) Iron Maiden - Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
6) Supertramp - Crime Of The Century
7) The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland
8) The Who - Tommy
9) Alan Parsons Project - Tales Of Mystery And Imagination
10) The Pretty Things - S.F. Sorrow
11) Wishbone Ash - Argus
12) The Zombies - Odessey and Oracle
13) Journey - Journey
14) Santana - Carvanserai
15) Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida

I'll start it off with this lot ... you'll note that with Queen ... even though Queen II is IMO, the better prog album, I included A Night At The Opera which I believe was a more "important" release

Cheers people ... Rising Force ... I think we are going to agree on Maiden a lot more than on Malmsteen!

Mongo ... of the three artists/albums you mentioned that I've heard I wouldn't have thought of including Ultravox's singles collection ... maybe an early OMD album, but perhaps Modern English's After The Snow ... is the most prog-related synth-pop album of all for me

Robert Plant's Pictures also wouldn't make my list .. although of course I left Zep off, and some people have argue for either Houses Of the Holy or Physical Graffiti or even Presence, based on some of the longer tracks there ...

Rainbow's Rising seems a good bet ... although I actually think that the first Rainbow album beats it in terms of variety ... but probably not prog-relatedness (there's a word for you, Peter )

The others I simply don't know Mongo

Good list, although you seem to be saying that Queen and Supertramp are non-prog artists which is bound to start an argument with someone.

FM- Black Noise, is a must

ELO- Eldorado, IMO

Styx-Equnox, IMO

Triumph-JUST KIDDING!

not on the list:

Magnum-Chase the Dragon

and does the inclusion of Uriah Heep open the floodgates for the whole Art Rock section?

Yeah ... the silliest thing is that Uriah Heep is my all time favourite band, and Ken Hensley my biggest musical inspiration ...

for me this is the situation with Uriah Heep, Deep Purple and Queen ... I have all the albums by all three bands ... and believe that all three dabbled in prog-rock at one point or another without ever being full blown prog-rock bands in the way that Yes and Genesis were ...

this little list is just my attempt to take a different look at how these bands might be presented ... nothing official ... just thought I'd try it out ... if the thread starts getting ugly, I suppose I could close it, but I think everyone who's posted so far understands where I'm coming from ...

but having said all that you're right .. some art rock bands might qualify ...

Great choice!

Purple's Concerto at no 2? Come on - it went by unnoticed and hasn't influenced anybody (although it may have showed some what NOT to do , as it sounds like a failed attempt to establish rockers as "serious" musicians).
