'Twin House' was recorded in 1976 by texan guitarist Larry Coryell and the belgian guitarist Philip Catherine. Both guitarists have a large source of inspiration going from Django Reinhardt( 'Nuages' on this record is DR compostion) and Charlie Christian to Jimi Hendrix, Wes Montgomery and George Benson. They recorded 'Twin House' rather quickly in only 12 hours and you can feel the spontaneity in every track. Both play acoustic, LC 6-string and PC 12-string (with a special tuning), giving the rather traditional Jazz guitar duo a broader and Folkier sound.Great Record! |

Alucard are you attempting to start a thread on duo guitarist albums, if so some recommendations, also a few to avoid: Allan Holdsworth/Ollie Hassell on Tempest's Under The Blossom: rare example of Holdsworth spontaneously duoing in real time with another guitarist - check out the rock jazz of Brothers. Allan Holdsworth/Joe Satriani doing the title track of Stu Hamm's Radio Free Albumuth - probably the worst thing either guitarist has done. (BTW there is boot of Holdsworth blowing Eddie Van Halen away). Allan Holdsworth/Frank Gambale: Truth In Shredding . Interesting recording under the name of the Mark Varney Project (MV brains behind Tone Center and Magna Carta Records), although you can just about hear that Holdsworth's contribution was recorded separately and dropped in to the master tapes. Gambale at times trying too hard to sound like Holdsworth. Pat Metheny/John Scofield: I Can See Your House From Here, great guitarwork but sparks fail to fly as the two guitarists avoid outdoing each other. John Abercrombie/John Scofield's Solar can be forgotten too. John Abercrombie/Ralph Towner: 5 Years Later - works well especially with a relatively strange pairing of electric and acoustic guitars respectively. Jeff Beck/John McLaughin: Goodbye Porkpie Hat - Jeff Beck in fine form with McLaughlin - alas a one-off on McLaughlin's album The Promise (the duo with Michael on this album is a real storm too) - although McLaughlin guested when Beck did 4 or 5 consequetive nights at QEH on London's South Band about 3 or 4 years ago. Larry Coryell has recorded with many other guitarists as already mentioned and I should add.e.g. John McLaughlin, Joe Beck, John Scofield etc. Larry Coryell stepped into Al DiMeola shoes for the video/DVD recording of Spirits have flown with McLuughlin and Paco DeLuca. Then of course the flamenco fusion of Friday Night In San Francisco: McLAughlin, DiMeola, DeLuca, a collaboration repeated on other recordings Q: Al DiMeola teamed up with Steve Vai on what tune and what album - Vai doing the DiMeola part?
