It's funny,,,,,,,,,,, in the 70s, I couldn't stand Geddy Lee's voice. RUSH, I did not like.
Now; I own all but their last 2 albums, "Vapor Trails', and "Feedback". And; that's just because, I have not gotten around to buying them yet.
I never would have thought in a million years, I would get into their music. I guess, I began to take notice when "Signals" was released. Later in the early 90s, I began buying their albums. I even like the early stuff. Some not as much as others, perhaps. But; now I own "Rush in Rio", and "R30", along with all those albums.
I genuinely love their sound now. And; I want to get some of the books written about them, as well. They seem like just great guys, and the interviews (from R30) are quite enlighting.
I hope to see them in concert one day....

I once heard a band called THROAT from Ireland that sounded like they may have been influenced by Rush. I have searched high and low but cannot find anything by them. I am sorry this is no help in your quest, but if there are any forum members especially from Ireland that knows anything about this band I'd love to hear about it.

I think you could try something by the band Enchant. Like Juggling 9 or Dropping 10, or Blink of an Eye, or Tug of War.
They are great albums, from a great progressive rock band which was influenced by Rush, and I am pretty sure he or she would enjoy them if he or she is a Rush fan ...

Just about impossible to compare any band to RUSH. I love ALL of Rush's creations and suggest:
Little Atlas
IZZ
Man On Fire
All reletively new bands with interesting qualities. Similar but different.

Hey there genesis24601
As a long time Rush fan, I have never found a band that quite matched Rush. Dream Theater has much Rush influence, but may be too busy to the casual Prog listener. I would look at some of the other bands your friend listens to and perhaps find an intermediate. For instance, say your friend is into Rush and Yes, then older Genesis or Kansas would be a decent band to check out.
A newer band called Coheed and Cambria has been compared to Rush, but I think it is more due to the vocal quality and topics of their lyrics. While I consider C&C progressive, others here don't share my view, but to each his own.
Have your friend come to this website and sample some of the music offered. It is a very valuable resource. I'm glad I found it.

It's said that early Dream Theater is influenced by Rush, but it's nowhere near that kind of quality IMO. Same goes for early Spocks Beard albums.

Yeah - I agree nothing really sounds like Rush, although many have tried (and failed)
The new Riverside album - Second Life Syndrome - might appeal, it's not Rush, but it's heavy, clever and well I love Rush and think it's great.

Hey. It's that time of year where presents are being given. I'm looking
for a CD for my friend that is similar to Rush music and he has all of
