After another long series starting with 2024 and working my way down yearly to 2005 which had three sections (PA Album Charts Top 8, PA Album of the Year Event, my personal 8 choices) I made a poll with three sections of albums from 1967, 1968 and 1969 and then one with two sections of 1970 and 1971. Doug is also making series right now per year and I am inspired to do this today because of his latest 1973 poll and because I could not sleep. I like that dynamic, I like to compare and contrast lists and to me it just feels kind of vibrant to do so. It almost feels to me like the polls as are in some kind of dialectic and I'm ever in search of some kind of synergy. I really appreciate polls and topics that cover a variety of people's personal favourites and I do love to share my tastes, even if it can get too repetitive.

This is multiple choice. Please try to vote for up to three for each year, so three from 1972 and three from 1973 in the list and mention those in a post. If you go over, it's not a big deal. If you only like one album in the list, that's fine. If you like none in the list, that's fine, please say so and mention your own favourites. I do like to see other people's favourites and lists that may or may not include the same selections that I have. Thanks. I have not bothered with an other as I want people to mention what they like on the list and not on the list in post. It's not a contest and reading through the posts interests me more than just seeing the results of the poll itself.

I have opted to leave out Stringtronics, which is not in PA, I love it, but it is likely to be very little known except to some I have shared it with before here. Also sadly left out Nick Drake, an album and artist I love. I do consider him to be in the progressive folk camp and don't distinguish him in my collection as separate from other folk artists of the era that are in PA. I get that he does not rock, and I am not complaining that he is not in PA, but he still fits with the others in folk for me. Nick Drake has more in common with, say, Vashti Bunyan who is in PA than with, say, Meshuggah which is in PA.

The list order is quite arbitrary and I could have so many other albums. These are years where I would like to offer much longer lists, but going for economy, at least in the poll itself. I like writing these rambling, extemporaneous opening posts.

here are my top 25 for each year at AwersomeProg. I have been doing 20 but I prefer 25 as that is how many poll options there are and I am more of a maximalist than a minimalist.

Here are my longer lists at AwesomeProg:

1972:

Voted for (=some of my absolute favorite albums of all time):

Herbie Hancock - Crossings
Can - Ege Bamyasi
Faust - So Far

Love these too:

Popol Vuh - Hosianna Mantra
Moving Gelatine Plates - The World of Genius Hans

Brave New World - Impressions on Reading Aldous Huxley

...and these:

Gentle Giant - Three Friends

Jean-claude Vannier - L'enfant assassin des mouches

-I haven't listened to her in years, so I can't claim I'm the fan I once was. I used to love her music though:

Alpes & Catherine Ribeiro - Paix

Everyone else is more into this one than I am:

Khan - Space Shanty

1973 was quite the year with Henry Cow's debut, Gong on fine form and the brilliant MDK.  1972 belonged to Germany.
