Hi! A couple months ago I set out to make some Prog Rock and I asked people in this forum for help on how to create album art. 8 months later I finally managed to finish the album. If I were to give a description of the album I would say it fits firmly into the Symphonic Prog category, since there are a lot of strings and orchestral elements on the album. This is the first track of the album, fully titled: Emperor Suite (i. Civilization Begins ii. 3000 years iii. Kingdoms iv. The Dark Ages v. Revival vi. Dreams Of Today), it should also be available on streaming. Please let me know what you think as I always aim to grow as an artist and feedback would be very appreciated!

At a very first listen I hear influences mainly by Genesis, but some sounds remind to Bo Hansson and some passages are in an ELP mood. Having influences is normal and it's fine. Mixing them to create something personal and original is what an artist has to do. I don't like your voice, honestly, sometimes untuned, but the instrumental is good. There's also too much reverb on it. My suggestion: hire a vocalist and replace your voice. The music is good, don't jeopardize it with poor vocals. |

I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

Thanks for hearing it, and thanks for the feedback!
I
also think the vocals were the weakest part of the album as I dont
really have any experience with singing. The main idea was I wanted to
steer away from becoming a pure instrumental act as I dont think it
makes the music quite as memorable or outstanding. I respect the honesty
and it is duly noted! Also why do i get this weird command bar added when i reply? I cant seem to remove it (function(){function c(){var b=a.contentDocument||a.contentWindow.document;if(b){var d=b.createElement('script');d.innerHTML="window.__CF$cv$params={r:'8b8c0a190f0e719f',t:'MTcyNDU5MzcwNC4wMDAwMDA='};var a=document.createElement('script');a.nonce='';a.src='/cdn-cgi/challenge-platform/scripts/jsd/main.js';document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(a);";b.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(d)}}if(document.body){var a=document.createElement('iframe');a.height=1;a.width=1;a.style.position='absolute';a.style.top=0;a.style.left=0;a.style.border='none';a.style.visibility='hidden';document.body.appendChild(a);if('loading'!==document.readyState)c();else if(window.addEventListener)document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',c);else{var e=document.onreadystatechange||function(){};document.onreadystatechange=function(b){e(b);'loading'!==document.readyState&&(document.onreadystatechange=e,c())}}}})(); < height="1" width="1" style=": ; top: 0px; left: 0px; border: medium; visibility: ;">

The reason for the weird command bar I believe is that the forum software was invented at about the same time as the printing press. Having said that, I might be wrong as my technological capability isn't much better!

Amazing work. This epic has all the elements I wish more modern prog musicians would use. Plus, you used those elements with insane amounts of care and it tells a lot about your music production history knowledge. The vocals are good IMHO. You have a good voice tone and diction. The vocal style compliments that pastoral 70's vibe. There are spots that are out of key but I think some doubletracking with just a bit of Melodyne correction and would make the vocals really shine. I can tell you tried to mask those little flubs with reverb. But the excessive reverb didn't do the intended job imho and only made the vocals more muddy in the mix.

Thanks for hearing and i'm glad you enjoyed!
I
think you're right on me being a bit lenient with the reverb knob,
which did hurt the overall song. Some of this was due in part because
there was a lot of white noise in my backround at the time of recording.
you can actually hear this in some of the softer segments of the track.
So some extra reverb would drown out those white noise segments but at the cost of
quality. However if I just recorded somewhere else and I was a better singer I probably wouldnt have these issues. The other 3 songs on the album also features vocals and the next track "Bird Island" I think is better sung than this track. Dont know how to fix the command bar so I guess its here to stay (function(){function c(){var b=a.contentDocument||a.contentWindow.document;if(b){var d=b.createElement('script');d.innerHTML="window.__CF$cv$params={r:'8b8f0094df8866ff',t:'MTcyNDYyNDc3MS4wMDAwMDA='};var a=document.createElement('script');a.nonce='';a.src='/cdn-cgi/challenge-platform/scripts/jsd/main.js';document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(a);";b.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(d)}}if(document.body){var a=document.createElement('iframe');a.height=1;a.width=1;a.style.position='absolute';a.style.top=0;a.style.left=0;a.style.border='none';a.style.visibility='hidden';document.body.appendChild(a);if('loading'!==document.readyState)c();else if(window.addEventListener)document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',c);else{var e=document.onreadystatechange||function(){};document.onreadystatechange=function(b){e(b);'loading'!==document.readyState&&(document.onreadystatechange=e,c())}}}})(); |

I made a topic on the issue of code, how to resolve it, and how to use BB code without the forum editor: https://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=132330
You need to disable the the WYSIWYG post editor. When logged-in click on Member Control Panel (near top left of from screen), then click on Forum Preferences, then click the "No" option for Enable the WYSIWYG post editor, then update your profile. |
