   I just finished my 3rd listen of this new release from Good NightOwl. (Mods please have this added to Good NightOwl's discog, I tried to submit it myself but it keeps timing out and not submitting.)
Good NightOwl's newest release "Live in ADHD" is not a live album. I think the title is meant to be a play on words about its content. The lyrics and concepts are all about the internet and technology, its effect on our attention, day to day communication, implications for culture, and just the dizzying quickness of the progression of it all.

Musically the album is super modern-ly poppy, with the progressive flavors generally being present in the time signature/syncopation choices and occasionally a spicy augmented or diminished chord will take priority over a stand boring major or minor triad. Theres textures of world music and reggaeton, and some latin flavor in certain areas.

It's a mixed bad of pleasant nuttyness, and I'm into it! I liked the last few releases, and how they maintained a contrast between them with still this presence of personality that keeps it all held together cohesively. The mix has improved significantly here, and I think in part that is largely due to the needs of the sound of high production dance pop. That being said the flourishes here are not cringey dubstep synths. Its mostly nylon classical guitar and flowery synths, world instruments and electronic bass drum stomps, and tight percussive synth bass, all fitting into the same sonic pocket.

The brainchild of Good NightOwl is youtuber and tim heidecker comedy protege Daniel Cupps. I first heard of Cupps from his work with Tim, and followed him ever since. His absurdism and the way he weaves it into progressive music is amazing to me. He has albums under his real name too that lean heavier into comedy music, but this Good NightOwl stuff is jam packed with so much variety and musical exploration throughout the discography that it speaks to me personally more than the straight forward comedy music. No disrespect, it appears Cupps is having more success with his 3d animation and comedy music stuff but i just prefer Good NightOwl. The production could still be bumped up a notch, but it seems its improving with every release.

I certainly reccommend checking this new album out if you really enjoy pop that uses progressive tools to express musical complexity
