Just borrowed this triple CD from my local library (hotbed of prog so it seems, also got Gong Live in Sherwood forest '75).

Heard nearly everything on the CD (apart from Rare Bird?) but couldn't resist getting it out. I know its not going to appeal to all here, but it starts & ends with VdGG, contains MAN, Egg,  Atomic Rooster, Caravan, Kevin Ayers & Hawkwind so just had to get it.

reassuring to see that CDs like this are about and local libraries in cultural backwaters stock them as well.

It's great that this album did bring prog to the masses, and for me was ample proof that Roxy Music and Deep Purple were very progressive early on as they fit in perfectly with the rest of the album.

However, the hits selected by Curved Air, Hawkwind, ELP, Atomic Rooster and Rare Bird were over-used on compilations, and for me ELO stuck out like a sore thumb- theirs was the most boring song on it...

Despite that, it's great to have Man, Egg, Matching Mole, Steve Hillage and Kevin Ayers on it, amongst the more famous names.

I got this when it came out. I had to go back to our local Woolies because it had sold out the first time I went. Didn't realise there were so many prog fans in Essex.

Overall it's pretty good, I like the idea of a 20-minute epic at the end of each CD.

Some of the selections are a bit bizarre (how the hell did ELO get on here?) and some could have been a bit more imaginative (Hocus Pocus, Mocking Bird).

Why have ELP got 2 tracks? And what happened to Pink Floyd?

as for king crimson and pink floyd not added i dont think it was because they where forgotten...but perhaps they did not get KC or PF permission or sumthing
