I only post in this forum periodically, but inspired by David, this is The Periodic Table game, where the idea is to find a song which mentions one of the 92 chemical elements in the song title. I'll fill in the gaps in the table below as the artists and songs are added. There's one point for every song mentioned and double points if the artist is included on ProgArchives. Obviously, it should be a doddle to find songs with gold or silver in the title. but whoever heard of a song that mentions praseodymium or neodymium in the title..... No one said it was going to be easy. There's also a bonus point on offer for the first one to add a song for each element. ATOMIC NO. ELEMENT ARTIST SONG ADDED BY 1. That's a good idea, Paul, even I have to admit on my account that for many years, I didn't even really notice the song titles, and just listened to the albums. So, my own knowledge of song titles is quite limited. Anyway, I can mention at least a couple: "Iron Man", on Black Sabbath's Paranoid (1970) "Oxygene", on Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygene (1976) Edited by David_D - September 11 2022 at 06:46 |

I'm curious about how many of these 92 chemical elements have been used in song titles. They seem quite unknown to me in that context. Edited by David_D - September 11 2022 at 06:55 |

You're off to a good 4-point head-start as both artists are listed on PA.

I should think many of the 92 elements in the Periodic Table have never ever been included in a song title, but we'll see how far we can get with it.

By the way, it's worth mentioning that you can choose the same element twice or more in the Periodic Table of songs at the top of the page. For instance:-
Jean Michele Jarre - Oxygene and also The Sweet - Love is Like Oxygen

These were the ones I could think of that are in my collection or well known enough. I guess there are many "gold" and "silver" song and there must be some "lead" around in the hard rock fields. Undoubtedly some others still, but I'm not going to google for it. However, Paul, it seems there are today 118 known chemical elements (not 92)... but I doubt we will find songs about those most recent findings. Nice thread idea! Curious to see how far we can get, collectively.

I only included the 92 natural elements in the Periodic Table above. I didn't bother to include the trans-uranic elements, mainly because none of those strangely-named elements are ever likely to appear in a song title. For instance:- 93. Neptunium 94. Plutonium 95. Americium 96. Curium 97. Berkelium 98. Californium 99. Einsteinium 100. Fermium |

^ You're probably right. Thought of this one (listened to it just recently, but I'm not paying much attention to titles either, sometimes): David Torn - The Mercury Grid: |

I'll go for the top spot with Thea Gilmore's "Hydrogen" - the most abundant element in the universe, although not very abundant for songs.

Yes, I'm sure there must be one or two songs around with Plutonium in the title.
