The live albums list thread made me revisit some of my favourite German live albums; now I'm listening to Requested Document Vol. I by Anyone's Daughter, very warm still well produced, I love it. Kraan, Hoelderlin, and Guru Guru also have marvellous live albums that are far superior to most of their studio output. But this poll is not about live albums, rather I'm curious which of these bands not talked about that often is loved most here. I decided to not include Grobschnitt, Eloy, or those Kraut and electronic bands that are seen as bigger when it comes to innovation, to not distract attention from those listed; this is not a "best German band" overall poll.

I only like half of these and, for now< I can't make up my mind between Novalis and Kraan.

Hi,
Of these, I would say that Guru Guru has the best of them, with some incredible versions of their great pieces of noise ... oppppooosss ... excuse me ... music! Absolutely tops and fun to listen to. Kraan's couple of live albums are also very nice and enjoyable. The others, not as much, and perhaps there is something missing, in that the music is not above and beyond what they had. I have to listen to SFF again though!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Love them all but have gone for Anyone’s Daughter since their score was looking a bit lonely

I did not enjoy Anyone's Daughter (I've only heard their two first), but the rest of the bands in the selection have all crafted som really nice tunes. Kraan's debutalbum is fantastic and among my favorite Krautrock albums. So they'll get my vote because of that stand-out release.

I'll go with Kraan (for the debut especially), leaving Guru Guru's Hinten just behind.

I was kind of expecting Guru Guru to win, a fun band although I'm only into a rather short period of their work. Currently SFF is in second place, which surprises me as I thought they'd be most unknown. Their first two albums are stunning. I never saw them live but I saw Fuehrs & Froehling once, opening for Novalis, quite impressive. Right now Hoelderlin's live album Traumstadt is among may favourite albums ever, maybe only temporarily, don't know. I don't rate their studio work that high though. The first two SFF albums are maybe the best studio albums from these. Novalis is the band with whom I have the longest and richest personal history, and I still love a big number of their tracks to pieces, and at least two albums from beginning to end. Kraan is probably the band I'd prefer to see live these days, so much chemistry still on stage and great memories of their shows (and their live albums so much better than all their studio work). Anyone's Daughter have it all, outstanding melodies, virtuosity, great studio and live albums, and a wonderful vocalist (unfortunately I discovered them later than the others and never saw them live). I'll still vote Novalis as they had more impact on me than the others.

yep, AD are my vote. I like Novalis well enough but they weren't as consistent and effervescent as Anyone's Daughter

I'm not very familiar with any of these, but I have heard a little bit of all of them. Guru Guru strikes me as the most original band, so it gets my vote.

All these bands have at least one album I really like but Kraan has my vote for having many records I enjoy. Guru Guru would be number two and I have a Guru Guru button on my windbreaker that some of the Indians I work with get a kick out if.

I've enjoyed for many years Hoelderlin's four first albums. Very good stuff! Novalis comes next.
