From that list, nothing comes close to topping Marilyn Manson for me. The guy is an arsehole, and his past is finally catching up with him, but he could make some good music.

Difficult choice, but Ayreon - 'Into the Electric Castle'.

Agreed but that Chroma Key album is also fantastic.

If Manson wasn’t in the poll, Chroma Key would have had my vote. But he is, so Moore misses out. Sorry, Kevin!

I'm surprised at your choice, I didn't know you enjoyed his music so much. His music never did anything for me, he is the one artist in that list I would never vote for. Embarrassed

I was just about to cast my vote for Jogfeet You! Slack Janitor...and then I saw Porcupine Tree’s Metanoia. I really love that thing. I wish they’d made more albums in that vein.

I wouldn’t say “so much”. There’s more of his music that I don’t like than what I do, but what I do like, I do like quite a lot. Plus, as a huge Bowie fan, it was kind of cool to hear Manson do his takes on Bowie with Antichrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I used to be a big Manson fan right around Antichrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals. I love both of those albums for the music but also the poignant lyrics. I lost touch after that tbh.
What I don’t get is how a lot of folks seem to dislike his personality. Has he changed since the late 90s?
I’m only asking because I personally found him to be one of the most intelligent and sympathetic rock stars to be interviewed back then. Humble, always ready to listen to others as well as being able to completely ruin interviewers that tried to paint him over with one brush.
It was actually rather funny to see those interviews where this guy that looks like satan’s best playmate actually came across as a calm and collected man I literally could picture myself drinking a couple of brewskis with.

He is without doubt intelligent, and has always provided that humble and sympathetic facade in interviews, it’s true. But for years now, there have been stories about how cruel and abusive he could be. Manson has always been about the performance. One part of that is the over-the-top performance, and another part is the intelligent and humble interviewee. What were once rumours are increasingly being outed as real events, with real people being hurt by his actions.

I’ve always liked his music, and admired the way he interviewed. But I’ve also always been wary for putting him on a pedestal, and imagining that anyway he portrays himself is the truth. The things putting Manson in the news at the moment are nothing new. It’s just that they are now becoming more “real”.

But just as I can still enjoy listening to Morrissey despite him being a first class t**t, so I am still enjoy listening to Manson even if he’s an abusive rapist. Luckily I was never a LostProphets fan, so I don’t have to worry about listening to the music of a paedophile.
