Topic: Suggestions for neo progressive music? Posted: September 02 2005 at 17:37 |
I am looking for additions to my progressive music collection; since I have virtually all of the 70s albums I like, I guess that means delving more deeply into the neo-progressive category. My favorite albums are Foxtrot, Selling England, A Farewell to Kings, Fragile, and Smallcreep's Day. I have Marillion's first couple of albums, and I recently picked up some IQ (The Wake, Subterranea, Seventh House, and Dark Matter) and found a copy of Somewhere but Yesterday by Citizen Cain - these artists seem to fit the bill. Any other CDs out there that are in a similar vein? I'm looking for songs reminicent of Supper's Ready, Musical Box, Dancing with the Moonlight Knight, Xanadu, Siberian Khatru, etc.

My current favorite Neo-Prog album is "I Am" by Tomas Bodin. Three long songs totally well over an hour. Hasn't left my CD player in weeks.

Shaun Guerin
From the stuff you've listed, he'd be right in your taste zone.

Try Porcupine Tree's Lightbulb Sun, its a mix between Metal and Hard Rock and is a great introduction for those who aren't into Prog Metal.

Some of my neo-prog faves are:
IQ: Ever/Subterranea/Seventh House/Dark Matter
Pendragon: The Window Of Life/Masquerade Overture
Pallas: Beat The Drum
Iluvatar: Children/Story Two Days Wide
Jadis: Across The Water/ Fanatic
Anekdoten: Gravity
There are tonnes more, but I hope these give you as much pleasure as they have me...

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson
