Topic: "Close To The Edge" vs. "Dark Side Of The Moon" Posted: April 17 2016 at 06:55 |
Which one? I know it's a silly and childish question, but which one is your pick?
As to me, even though "Close To The Edge" is more of "my style" of progressive rock, I never got beyond simply liking it. So, DSOTM for me.

the old deserted island.. CttE v. DSotM question ehh..
both great obviously, both full of incredible atmosphere. Two of the best albums to get altered with sippinf on some fermented coconut milk... or to get sweet and romantic with and do the vertical bop with your favorite palm tree
the difference.. one is far more interesting and varied musically...performed by musicians light years more talented... so CttE it is!

Close To The Edge all day every day. Dark Side is too dull and wishy-washy for me.

I'm not a fan of Yes regardless of how talented they were so I went with too dull and wishy-washy.

I think I like Pink Floyd more than Yes as a band, but in an album vs. album contest it may well be that Yes have the edge more often, or at least close to...

I never liked Siberian Khatru, and considering that takes up approximately 23% of the CttE album, I'll have to go with Dark Side of the Moon, because there is no way near as much that I don't like about that album, percentage-wise.

Yup feel the same----I don't want to sleep all day on the desert island---I'll need to stay up and be clear headed to hunt for food.

I think DSOTM is incredibly overrated (yes, that word again) - as demonstrated by someone mentioning it in the same post as CTTE and then people voting for it. I do think it's one large yawn, although not nearly as full of Waters' self-pity as The Wall, when he fairly wallows in the emotion. Speak, Breathe and Us and Them are okay, the rest more marginal. Close to the Edge: all three songs are brilliant. That's ALL THREE, even Siberian Khatru.

Dark Side. So much beauty and emotion on one slab, some of Rick's playing still gives me chills. Time, Great Gig in the Sky with Claire, Any Colour. The entire album still moves me every time.
CTTE I really only enjoy Siberian these days.
Now if you had put Topographic up against Dark Side my vote might be different.

two of my all time favorite albums, but it's Close to the Edge all the way for me. No offence to the other masterpiece, though.
