I only have the first Art Zoyd LP, and it's an excellent listen (their vinyls are very difficult to obtain) but again have 12 albums from Ange. Who can deny Francis' alien sounding Viscount Organ ??

I remain loyal to my symphonic roots here. However, I like Art Zoyd as well. Quite near the centre of a triangle with fanfare, chamber music and Zeuhl as vertices.

Art Zoyd for me. Art Zoyd has managed to hold my interest for many years, and I do have more studio albums by Art Zoyd than any other band. They have a large discography, and have continued to make challenging, interesting and immersive music through the years. There is always something by Art Zoyd that I'm in the mood for on any given day. Right now it's the stylings of "Faust", tomorrow it may be "Génération Sans Futur".
Regarding "In case anyone doesn't know what either sounds like...", one track from one album of course doesn't give an overview of a band's sounds (especially for one with a lengthy career and different phases). Right now I would not be into the Art Zoyd track posted as it doesn't fit my taste at this moment, on different days, that has been more the kind of Art Zoyd that I have been in the mood for. I hope people don't jump to conclusions about a band based on one arbitrarily chosen track. A band would have to be pretty one-dimensional and/or short-lived to be able to be fairly judged based on one track (or even on one album in the case of more diverse bands). I'm hardly ever in the mood for any of the post-Zaboitzeff albums, but certainly have enjoyed the ones I've heard when I was in the appropriate state of mind. The first few after he left are my favourites of those, probably Metropolis especially, and I have enjoyed Eyecatcher. I could actually do with some U.B.I.Q.U.E now, which is pretty different from the ones that came after it and retreads music, but most of them tend to test my patience (minimalism, ambience....). The first Experiences one I always like in part, but can almost be too academic, I find. |
