17 minute concept song, is it prog?

   Hello all, I've spent the better part of 7 months composing, recording, and fine tuning this song that I've been working on for a hopeful LP that will be released in the winter of 2016.  
So what I have is a story of a "character" going through teenage angst and the like... pretty original stuff I know...  At any rate,  the music reflects this journey, and I did my best to combine some of my favorite sounds (Folk, Metal, Jazz, Ambient) together in a cohesive manner.  However, none of the time signatures are "weird" or atypical, and most of the time it follows a pretty standard feel.  I consider it progressive because of the structure and the thematic content, but I'd love to hear more on what makes something "progressive".  I feel like especially this day and age the label "progressive" can be quite innocuous.  
I'm pretty grassroots in my implementation, and thus I decided to record every instrument in my basement (drums included).  Now, I'm not swimming in cash, so I do apologize if the quality isn't up to snuff.  
   I've trusted this website for a decade in guiding my ear towards fresh, new music and I've never been disappointed by the reviewers and contributors invaluable opinions.  Thus, it would really help if I could get some feedback from you all on this!  I've put my heart into this track, but I won't be the slightest offended if you hate it.  I'm also not exactly a singer in any shape or form, so I apologize for the poor attempts at that as well.  Thanks for the consideration :)

	You almost sound like me! I'll defenitely give it a listen some time soon. Sounds like prog to me. Unusual time signatures, harmonies, sounds are not a necessity at all, it sometimes adds a little more but it's not something you'll really miss. Edited by DDPascalDD - February 21 2016 at 05:44

	I really liked the first couple of minutes, especially the sax parts. The vocals weren't too bad, either. Not a huge fan of the heavier second half, but that's just me. As for whether it's PRAAAWWGG or not, who cares! You've put your heart into it and that shows and, cheesy as it is, that's all that matters.

	Hey all, thank you so much for the replies it truly means a lot. I'll check your stuff out soon Pascal, I'm already loving the Clarksonian prof pic! I tend to agree with your description of what progressive music actually means, and I truly think it makes the genre one of the most universal, to a certain extent. Magnum, if you liked the first half please do be on the look out for some other stuff I'll be releasing. While I am a big fan of metal, the album I'm currently writing has a couple acoustic-driven tracks that are very much in the same vein as what the first half of the track was. Prog Snob, (does the name relate to the Facebook group at all?) I really really appreciate the comparison. I'm definitely influenced by Steven Wilson as a musician in general, and his work is some of the most thought provoking of the past decade, in my humble opinion. I definitely adhere to his grassroots approach to making music as well, there is a certain power that comes with being a one-man act... though it can be fairly stale at times... unfortunately there aren't really any people around me (or that I know of) trying to make music like this. Ideally it would be awesome to take this stuff out formally and play for people, but getting people that want to hear is the challenging part. Anyhow, thank you all so much, please stay tuned for a more formal release as well as some individual tracks down the line.
