Advent (excellent semi-pro US band, who take at least 5 years to record an album, released by mellow) - and therefore check out the GG tribute released by too the Italian label Mellow Records for more clues (Advent and Mike Keneally feature).

And of course Spocks Beard, but they  have borrowed from all the major prog groups.

Epidermis’ Genius Of Original Force is, IMO, an underrated release that mixes GG-style counterpoint with a healthy dose of German angst. Not bad at all to my ears.

Nuova Idea’s Clowns album is musically excellent in the GG style (complete with “Prologue” imitation right out of the gate!), but I find the screeching hard-rock vocals really hard to take, and highly inappropriate for the music.
