Hello All, hows it all hanging out? - For Fathers Day I got "From Land to Ocean" by Galleon , a hit from the first listen - excellent stuff and 100 mins of prog goodness.
I have a mini mp3 player for the gym - a must have when you have a 20K non-stop row (1 hour 20 mins) and then another 26K on the bike (for all you Americans it's 1.6K to the mile).
Also , listening to Garden of dreams whilst looking out over the blue sea from the island of Kefalonia was a most uplifting experience - FK's music is ideal for the Blue Aegean lapping at your toes.....

Again you're showing great taste of music Barney ! I truly love Galleon as well and then especially From Land to Ocean. The Price, Fall of Fame and Liopleurodon are great tracks and the epic is something special even though it can't match Garden of Dreams of course.
I can recommend All European Hero (1996) as well, very nice output. And have you tried the other marvelous Swedes Grand Stand already ? Another superb band from that great prog country !
I have not heard this sedish band - but obvioulsy I shall, Thanks for the recommendation ! - It's this site that actually channels you into the genre/style of choice - I have a lot to thank this site for !

Obvously I meant SWEDISH !
Anyway = on a personal note, I will have more time to listen to prog - I have taken a contract in bonny Scotland and I will be weekly commuting - those long nights alone in my hotel room will be more tolerable with the considerable output of the Flokis to keep me company !

^  Congrats Barney, I can only imagine how tough it would be without a job.

Good luck on the new contract.

Roj,

What are you doing to me...you look...purple.

Unrelated, I finally got the new Beard CD.  I was a little skeptical after the last couple of albums...ok, in fairness, I was a lot skeptical.  I'm happy to say that I'm really digging the new one.  Just my initial read is that they let themselves go...musically, not ordering pizza's at nine o'clock in the evening and crying over your lost love letting yourself go.

"Jaws of Heaven" is a fantastic song and the album in it's entirety is really good.  I know that songwriting is a band process, but Dave Meros has the majority of songwriting credits and I think it's really helped.

They've always been great musicians, but they show their musicianship so much more on this CD.  I'm working on getting a more coherent opinion on the album, but all in all, I'm really liking it.

Ahhh, the avatar.  Well, I woke up one morning and my Space Revolver avatar had gone Cry.  Try as I might the site would simply not allow me to upload it again from anywhere Ouch.  Some copyright problem I guess.  So I decided a complete change of tack was in order so I went for the cover of Spanners by my beloved Black Dog.  A great album featuring the most progressive electronic track one could ever hear Tongue.

That SB album does sound good Tom, and you're far from the first to sing it's praises.  It'll have to go on my next birthday list.  By the sounds of it SB were in a bit of financial trouble so hopefully this cd will sell well and be a big boost money-wise for them.

I think bands are terminally in financial trouble when it comes to financing a new album.  With the explosion of Inside Out a lot of the front money for these bands has dried up so they have to find new and more innovative ways of fronting the money for the studio time, mixing, pressing of CD's and such...

On the other hand, when you don't have anyone fronting the money, you have total creative control over the album.  I don't know if it played into the new CD at all, but this one definitely is an improvement.

I'm listening to the older NdV CD's this morning and I think the biggest difference is the rhythm section.  I didn't notice this at the time when I first got "Spock's Beard" and the other two, but Dave and Nick are not in any way shape or form, playing to their full potential.  On X, they both are and it really adds to the music.  Also, Ryo's keyboard patches are a lot more varied and appropriate.

This CD is a notable improvement for the band.  It's not a return to Neal Morse era Beard, it's a different band with a different sound, but on this CD, it is at least a great sound.

Hi Roj!

For your avatar, right click on the image of Space Revolver here in the database, and save it to your hard drive.

Then you can go into your profile and upload the album art from you hard drive.

The issue regarding avatars is described here:

Hope this helps!

Sadly, no.  Though there has been some talk from Roine about working on one (at least writing it, anyway).  See the last two pages of the thread (97-98) for more details.

Hey Robert, nice to hear from you and thanks a lot for the info.  Hope things are good down in Florida.  That procedure sounds easy but for a non-technophobe like me.....LOL.

I'll get around to it shortly I'm sure, I guess I did need a change and for the moment I'm quite liking my new one Tongue.
