I agree!  Believe you me, when one reads a review of one's work, it's neither exciting or rewarding to see a review that seems to burst more with enthusiasm than actual insightful critique.

Also, I suppose everyone has to start with a first review somehow, but it is also slightly embarrassing when someone gives a glowing review to an album and that is their only review.  It does sort of detract and smack of fanboyism.

I'm sure there are many accounts where someone joins, reviews or rates something and then is never heard from again.

But, DAMN!  I can't believe I gave away my cunning plan with my 72 year old mother to stack the deck in our favour!!!  How stupid of me.  I should know better before opening my typing fingers!!!    D'oh!~

Ok Phideaux, you have product "out there" on sale. What are your thoughts on the discussion via-a-vis inclusion here at PA?

I have no opinion.  My stuff was on here before I joined in 2007.   I think I may have reviewed one thing, but then decided not to participate in that part of the equation since I am a creator of music (as well as a major fan).

in fact, the only album I would feel compelled to review would be Alice Cooper "Killer" because I think it is such a masterpiece of glam-progressive rock hybrid.

Other than that, I just recently came to the forum because I was interviewed and then because I wanted to put up a press release that our new album was out.

So, I don't really have an opinion on any of those questions.  (but I sure like to read the posts and see the thoughts that go into everything around here...  It's like watching the men behind the curtain!)

ha ha, Killer, I still like that album. You know way back when, we actually considered Cooper to be borderline prog at first.

Killer is great.  Halo Of Flies is such an awesome song.  It is such Bob Ezrin overkill.  I love it.  I discovered Killer after growing up with Beatles, Airplane and Zappa.  Then, a camp counselor turned me onto Alice Cooper band.   Some of their early stuff is pretty psche and Killer is definitely a progressive rock hybrid.  It is also before Bob Ezrin became his own cliche...

New Alice has never measured up...  Not even School's Out is as good.  Billion Dollar Babies might actually be as good, but not as experiemental.

it is truly hilarious -- Donovan and Alice Cooper!  Donovan's vocals on that track are totally over the top.  I love it!  Donovan had some great material that was unlike "Donovan".  I have enjoyed exploring his stuff.

Yeah, the big irony was Alice the anti-hippie with Donavan the ultimate cliche aniquated hippie, almost shocking at the time.

Have you ever seen the famous video where Donavan gets 'served' by Bob Dylan at a party?

Alice always seemed like a spoof on Jim Morrison, although spoofing Morrison is like shooting fish in a barrel.

I know this is supposed to be reviews discussion, we'll wrap it up in a bit, but after last night's exchange of 'ideas', ha ha, it's nice to kick back have a cold one and chat about Alice Cooper (I sound like Barak Obama now, ha ha).

Why not? If it's music that people like and enjoy listening to, I don't understand how being a member here has anything to do with it.

By that logic, I suppose we should get rid of Phideaux and Steve Wilson's music on this site, since they are also forum members. Thumbs Down

I'm working hard on my project, and so are the other guys involved. We just happen to be members here, but I plan on taking this music on the road at some point. You are seriously saying that I shouldn't have the right to be discovered on this site simply because I joined up and wanted to contribute to the community?

That's ludicrous.

^ I am ludicrous, I'm totally nuts

I keep wondering though, I make my living with music, playing and teaching, that's it and it's been that way for a while.

Although I could actually use this site to help my income by promoting my music etc, somewhere other than the musicians exchange, for some reason I don't feel right doing that.

There must be a reason.

P.S. I have no problem with using myspace or craigslist to promote myself.

Hey P0mt3, I thought I'd bring this back one more time. You know the question, would the above be a good idea or a bad idea.

Tony got it right, those with a vested interest are a lot stronger about this than the site in general.

By rigging or by chance?

True, but wouldn't it be "cool" if it happened by chance, instead of by rigging?

I don't thinks it's going to happen by chance, I think we're going to have to get organized here. A lot of my friends are pro level jazz/fusion musicians and could probably dig up some pretty strong material on CD. You want to hear a damn good guitar player check Gary Granger in the friends section of myspace/zazerac(my Homepage on PA) he sounds like a cross between Jeff Beck and Alan Holdsworth.

Wouldn't it depend on if the said artists were popular enough in general to make any 'top list'? Perhaps I don't understand the concept, but a different set of credentials would have to be set, I think. Not all PA member's works are well enough known to merit such a list, in my view.

However, I think a list of some kind would be great, simply because it would be a great way for me to discover just how many PA members also have albums available. It would save me a lot of time looking for them manually.

But then I guess I'm getting into the territory already explored earlier, about possibly setting aside a whole section of the site just for PA members' music. My only issue with that would be that we would be singled-out, and rather than appreciated on the same merits as all the other artists on the site, people would find then 'PA Members' Projects' section, and exclaim; "Oh, how cute! The site staff made a record!". We wouldn't be taken seriously, then.

Perhaps that is actually the point, however . . .

By chance, as the artists are more or less legendary in the top40: it'd be like exchanging witticism with merely Peter Gabriels of our era, in an open forum.

But then again, it seems that there's people in here already who think that ;)
