I don´t understand at all why Supper´s get that kind of opinions, when in prog there are many much unconsistent bands specially neoprog bands. If Supper´s is not consistent, then I quess Thick as a Brick and Atom Heart Mother are not too. Although Supper´s goes into many (I think great directions) it goes back to the starting theme as good progepos should. I don´t believe Genesis members have just put different songs together, to me Supper´s sound as it was worked as an entity right from the begin. There are not too much differences in those parts as there are in some other longer progpieces.
About the lyrics I have to say as non-English native Peter´s lyrics have always been much easier to understand than Anderson´s. I have loved Supper´s lyrics too. I don´t understand all, what Peter has put into Supper, but I think it´s a kind story of "mad professor" and his wife, everything start to their love, professor goes to mad trip with his mind endind really apocalyptic atmospheres, but return back to his wife safely. It can be interpret also child´s and mothers relation, many child leave in the morning from the safe of mother and return back in the evening after days adventures. At least it reminds my childhood days in my home village, although my mother isn´t always so glad, when I came home hours late.
