I'll say. Zappa is smashing UZ.

Unless we only count votes by people who have heard both bands, in which case UZ would probably be winning.

I've heard UZ. They play solid music, but seem to have no fun.
Zappa - on the other hand - plays just as well and dances circles (again, JMHO) around UZ.
But you youngsters know better than an old geezer like moi, don't you? Sure ya do.
Would it knock your socks off if I told you I have progeny in one of the bands in this mega-poll? No lie. Just ask.

The comment about people not listening to both choices wasn't directed specifically at you, beebs. It's just being honest though - everyone who's listened to UZ has almost certainly heard several Zappa albums, but it doesn't work the other way around. Yeah, some fans of Zappa will move on to them eventually if they're into chamber prog, but most won't - even Zappa is "too out there" for a lot of PA posters.
I think that UZ do have fun with some of their music. It's not happy sounding stuff usually, sure, but that doesn't mean they're not having fun. If they weren't, do you really imagine that they'd stick with playing their style for the money? Because I'm pretty sure they barely made any.

You gotta say something that makes sense in between your fanatical praise of Yoshida. If I haven't said, I did indeed vote youzee.

Soon I'll add in Natsuki Kido to the list of people upon whom I heap enormous amounts of praise.

On Round 3 Zappa will be taking on Magma, which should give him a better chance to lose. I don't know though, against Magma I might prefer Zappa.

Ditto. I couldn't vote against Zappa until he came up against, say....Gentle Giant, maybe King Crimson, Tangent, or Steve Hackett.

That's heresie EVERYONE knows Magma is better.
|
In this case, I will be able to vote, and in this case I do think that Zappa managed to play similar things that Magma did but in a way more fun way.
However, M.D.K. as a whole piece is a beast that Zappa can only get close with stuff like Echidna's Arf, Cruisin' for Burgers (from Zappa in New York), RDNZL, Peaches et al, in terms of complexity, sheer brilliance and emotion.
Still, it's a no-brainer for me.

Anyway, I don't think, but it's a pain in the neck to choose one.
