I enjoy both but Genesis.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

With all due respect for Jethro Tull, I prefer the magic and poetry of Genesis Smile

Genesis.

When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light.
Through the skies, his white horse flies.
To find a land beyond the night.

Genesis by a million miles. Not a big Tull fan.

Likewise, could never get into those Tull gents.

Jethro Tull for street cred and blues-based down to earth goodness......that was the original Tull, and even though it soon became The Ian Anderson band with sidemen, I still find what Ian does more interesting than Genesis, even though I always enjoy the Gabriel-era band with it's interesting sound images and stagecraft.

No contest, Genesis.

Well I enjoy more sublime themes in prog songs, so I would definitely opt for Genesis. They could make such a great murky atmosphere. I prefer their songs' lyrics to half-joke Tull ones.

Genesis

I just listen to them more (often) than Jethro Tull.

80's Genesis > 80s Jethro Tull
90s Genesis < 90s Jethro Tull
LOL

JT. Genesis had only six good albums imo, but Tull was consistent all the way to Catfish Rising. If Genesis would've kept up with their magicalness for another three albums, they would've won.
