OK, I've just added Chris Cutler and Cutler/Frith to the archive.

And there's plenty more RIO insanity where that came from!

Abiut half of the names are familiar, but that's as far as it goes. I'm certainly not familiar with any of their music, although I seem to recall hearing a bit of Vogel in the distant past.

I'm going to be adding Massacre and Charles Hayward in the near future, and after that there's things like P53 and The Science Group to work on as well, to say n othing of fleahing out Fred Frith's discography. So many worthy but obscure artists, so little time...

Not too farmiliar with most the bands presented here. But I know some of Krasten Vogel's music. I think people would be more farmiliar if we were to mention the band "Secret Oyster", with whom he was a founding member. He is quite well know as an Avant-sax player in his solo career. But unforunately I have not been luck enough to give his music repeat listens.

Thanks for the tips, eugene; I added all of them to the voting chart of the RIO/Avant/Zeuhl-team. Clap Don't expect too much of us in a short period of time - we will need to listen to some samples first. I had not heard of any of these bands/artists before, but I found the official website of Deluge Grander:

http://www.delugegrander.com/

They're a Cerebus Effect offshoot and, judging by the mp3-samples on their website, they could be classified as "Canterbury Metal" as well. Since Cerebus Effect have been added in Jazz Rock/Fusion, this might also be the category for Deluge Grander. But I must say they remind of the Taal case a bit: there are RIO influences, but also jazz/folk/symphonic etc. So... maybe Art Rock?

I've posted this link in its own thread, but I'll also put it here: Chris Cutler on Youtube - improv and interview

Enjoy!

Has anyone added Naikaku to the list yet?

Assaf and Joren, I've added Naikaku to www.progtology.com so if you want to add them to the list, feel free. Wink

By the way, I think Naikaku may possibly have the longest track name in the history of music!

Track 3 from "Shell":

I found a deep dark hole and I am going to jump in ! There will be no proof of my existence in this dark abyss. No - one will find me here ! I have to compensate for being born by the redemption of my life into death. I will become a commendable entity and stop all the senseless butchery and useless cruelty I have inflicted onto other souls. Right from the start we only live in the "now". But if we even stop to think of the here and now, it has already become the past in a twinkling of a moment. In turn, the future is pushing against the now and this whole perception as we know it soon becomes the past. To try and verify the moment of "Life" is an impossible task. When trying to prove life, it becomes a past existence in which there are too many memories. All in all, in the end life and death are exactly the same. So I am going to follow my dream and dive into my chosen fate !

LOL

While we are on the subject of adding bands to our suggest list, we can also consider these that are fetured on Proggnosis. They have some we don't have on PA, but I am not sure about them fitting or not.

I will compile the list and maybe post it here if anyone is interested.

Thanks Joren.

I do believe the outcome for Naikaku will be Jazz Rock/Fusion or Art Rock though, but thought they were worth a vote anyhow.

I need their debut, so if anyone can get hold of it, do let me know.  Shell, their most recent release, will arrive at the end of the week.

OK then, I have gone over the ProgGnosis list and it strangely divided between sub-groups which is not very clear to me, but whatever...
Anyway, I will post the list here as it is divided in their website (and many of them I have not heard of, so I can't say anything about whether it should be in or not).

Here it goes:

Tatsuya Yoshida projects (maybe we can make Adam a Yoshida expert responsible for all of these? LOL):

  1. Akaten
  2. Korekyojin
  3. Mainliner
  4. Sun Kich
  5. Musica Transonic

Avant-Garde:

  1. Anatrofobia (Italy)
  2. Blitzoids
  3. Bosetti Alessandro
  4. Combat Astronomy
  5. Cronosfera
  6. Fukushima Lentin
  7. Les Granules
  8. Tomasz Gwincinski
  9. High Fidelity Orchestra
  10. Ixt Adux
  11. Kakusenjo No Ongaku
  12. Knead
  13. Kourgane
  14. La 1919
  15. Macromassa
  16. Masque
  17. Miosotis
  18. Musica D’Repuesto
  19. No Safety
  20. Non Credo
  21. Only A mother
  22. P.O.N
  23. Peterroom
  24. Psychonoesis
  25. Nuno Rebelo
  26. Rouge Ciel
  27. Six Cylinders en V
  28. Slav De Hren
  29. Sonzai Dewa Naku
  30. Simon Steensland
  31. Trap
  32. Vajra
  33. ZNR
  34. Amygdala
  35. Vincent Bergeron
  36. Blast
  37. Body Parts
  38. Camp Blackfoot
  39. Compagnia D’arte Drummatica
  40. Gorge Trio
  41. Groep Ohm
  42. Hi Speed
  43. Homler-Waegeman-Fajt
  44. Yukihiro Isso
  45. Justine
  46. Klimperei
  47. Komintern
  48. Steve Kretzmer
  49. Laboratorio Di Musica & Immagine
  50. Maelzel Metronome
  51. Motor Totemist Guild
  52. N.A.D.M.A
  53. Noma
  54. Novo Tono
  55. Pak
  56. Rascal Reporters
  57. Fausto Romitelli
  58. Scrooge

Chamber:

Other/General:

  1. Gramigna   ?
  2. PFS
  3. Shining

Prog:

  1. Bone
  2. Grits
  3. Koniec

Zeuhl:

  1. Rialzu

To tell you the truth this seems a daunting task... But we can use the help of everyone here regarding these bands/musicians and take it one at a time (and divide it amongst ourselves).

There are some bands here I think need to be added, but for the most of them, I hope other people here can give us their thuoghts on the matter. I will post later those I think need to be added.

The Long Hello are in the archives, if indeed, it refers to the same band (VdGG minus Hammill).

Volapúk have been mentioned here already and I've heard of Amygdala.

All the others are new to me... except Jannick Top, but I don't know his music either.

Lindsay Cooper plays bassoon and she was a member of Gong and Comus (played on their second album), plus many other projects.

Greaves and Blegvad are ex-National Health, so I suspect they're prog.  I think Wayside sell their album.
