it's an allusion to the three messangers in Shakespeare's Richard III; the first two messangers brought him bad tidings of Henry Tudor's imminant arrival, but the third, upon bringing good news about the capture of the Duke Of Buckingham, got a cuff around the ear for his efforts...
sorry, I was just in a literary mood...at least Tony R enjoyed it...
