Being "faster" is not always better. I agree. Alex Lifeson is more creative than petrucci. If they had sweeping contests, petrucci would take alex anyday, but I feel like that has nothing to do with being "better"

Alex Lifeson is way better than Petrucci. And I like Petrucci.
I must say that if we speak of performance, Alex Lifeson is way better than Petrucci to my ears. I only speak as a bass player but I've seen many guitarists in my life and I must say that Petrucci never impressed me as much as Alex Lifeson did or Steve Hackett did or Steve Howe did.

And i don't understand the success of Led Zeppelin. I don't completely dislike their music but it's really badly produced and performed.
I think a big appeal of Led Zeppelin is the general sloppiness.
I would take this kind of sloppiness everyday!

But seriously it's probably because Sigur Ros is more commercial.
Sigur Ros? Commercial? When?
I must say I was aware of the fact that Led Zeppelin never cared of being out of tune and everything and that the only thing that mattered for them was the groove wich they undoubtedly had.
Sigur isn't commercial but they're more commercial than Magellan for example even if I must admit I like Sigur Ros more than Magellan even if I rather like Magellan.

I partly agree as far as his voice goes. He emotes superbly and he has a way with words, in the sense that he can sing them with peculiar inflections that are funny, but there's nothing much he can do about his voice when all is said and done.
Not one of my least favourites in prog, though. That would be James LaBrie first and foremost and then Hogarth, Morse and Jon Anderson in order of least preferred.

Of course you can dislike them. But by characterizing them "annoying sounds", it sounds like you're trying to de-legitimize that vocal style. It's something I see a lot, and it drives me insane.
Voice is a sound
Growls are annoying
So there's no offense in the statement
But you are right I don't consider growling like an animal a legitimate singing style, just as I don't consider most Rap as legitimate music, so live with it but don't attack people for their opinions.

In my humble opinion (lie, but I try to be diplomatic as much as possible) there's one part in a billion that stands on the shoulders of giants: Arrested development. Do you know them? If not, give them a try. Profound lyrics, strong connection to their own culture, great respect for elders. Perhaps there exist many more out there. But hey, we're just human beings.
This! This (3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days in the Life Of...) is the only hip-hop album I owned until I got the Death Grips one last month. Most excellent music that can be enjoyed by pretty much anyone.

I know how you feel. I'm currently being attacked on a youtube video for sharing similiar opinions. Aren't so called prog fans supposed to being accepting of others' points of view?

Some Progheads are only tolerant when you agree with them.
Just in case:

I like hip-hop artists such as Meshell Ndegeocello. Have you tried her music? It's quite fantastic to my ears.
