Well that explains a lot  ; I knew they wanted to do something different than the norm. A guess akin to Dylan's John Wesley Hardin except without the Americana influences. I always saw the concept as an inside joke with the radio station idea ('Selling Out'). The title only further solidifies the irony of its commercial appeal I guess

as leading lights of the mod culture... they were exactly happy to see it die with the dawn of Aquarius.. something they came back to with Quadrophenia.

Boy,Entwhistle really cooks during "Hall of the Mountain King". I havent listened the bonus tracks on Sell Out in a while but many are just as good as the original album. This tune reminds me of something from Gong...mmm tasty

Something I love about the Who is that they had so much stuff that didn't make their records and they threw tons on the Remastered CD's. And then they started releasing deluxe editions...the quality of the bonus tracks on Sell Out and Who's Next are just testaments to Pete as a songwriter and the band as performers.

I couldn't agree more... I mean... look at something like Coke 2 - Melancholia... great track.. but not good enough to make it onto the album...
man... talk about air drumming classics.... I will say though... as a master air-drummer... I have never heard a drummer so incredibly hard to follow as Moon... pure chaos... you never know what he is going to hit.. and when he is going to hit it.
pure mad genius...

Even harder to follow with physical drums . And Enwhistle is one of my favorites to air-bass along with...I have a thing with air-bass for some reason (especially Ox air-bass). His facial expressions and mannerisms are extremely entertaining
