Haven't listened to it in a long time but I do remember liking the album, not essential in any way but still good. I like how the album opens |
It's a nice album, my friend, I've got a 3 star review ready to post of it, but it's just a shame that almost every track blantantly rips off riffs, melodies and whole ideas from a bunch of the classic Yes albums! And i don't mean `influenced by' - just reuses them! There's lovely original ideas weaving in and out of the entire disc, but they're always pushed to the back behind more Yes thievery! Still, no buyers remorse!

Nice review That band's name is even worse than Satin Whale Nucleus - Elastic Rock Astrodome - s/t (Gary, did you notice the pre-order for the reissue on silver vinyl?) Lightwave - Cantus Umbrarum (Do you know this French ambient electronic duo, Michael? They are really good ) Caravan - If I Could Do It All Over Again I'd Do It All Over You (That title ) Ut Gret - Ancestors' Tale Kuni Kawachi - Kirikyogen Grant Green - Idle Moments Eloy - Planets

Whalefeathers is NOT a good name! Haven't heard Lightwave, Sam, will have to look into them. I've noticed a bit of Caravan love on this current page, that's always a good thing. Can't go wrong with their first several albums...damn, even `Better by Far' from the late 70's is still a charming and good-natured guilty pleasure.

The one I heard it's probably not a good start though, since it's narrated (although it's only a few lines and it's not really distracting), "Tycho Brahι" is the best I heard.
I heard most of their albums once two years ago, I felt like I should revisit them. "Better By Far" didn't seem really bad.

I'm thinking about ordering some (many!) albums from AltrOck, I'll have a more concrete opinion then

Haven't heard that Tai Phong one, Sam, although I'm certainly aware of the group, I'll look into it. Tonight's choices, too busy at work to listen to more recent/newer additions, so settled on a selection of reliable wonderful favourites: Ashra New Age of Earth Apoteosi s/t (great minds think alike, Sagi!) P.F.M Storia di um Minuto Museo Rosenbach Zarathustra Whalefeathers s/t Atlantide s/t Casa das Maquinas Lar de Maravilhas Novalis Sommerabend Yes The Yes Album Yes Close to the Edge Agitation Free Second Ishq - In a Rainbow Air

A good day today! John Greaves - Kew Rhone (1977) Egg - Polite Force (1971) Henry Cow - Unrest (1974) National Health - National Health (1976) Moving Gelatine Plates - The World Of Genius Hans (1972) Phlox - Vali (2013) And, David (Guldbamsen), as to the talk we've had about modern Canterbury bands, the very last one is excellent. Phlox come from Estonia and for some odd reason they have been classified here as jazz-rock (probably because they are not of the original Canterbury bands). Anyway, their sound is more improvisation-based, so more in the vein of the second wave Canterbury bands, but I think they sound great and have a nice, original sound and a great saxophonist! They take the best instrumental elements of Hatfield and the North and Soft Machine (without the American Chick Corea-like thing) and add some delicious sauce (as you like to call it)! A great listen, highly recommended! Man, I'm so limited, I only listen to Canterbury scene and Canterbury-flavored avant-prog these days. I feel bad... Oh well, maybe I will spin something different tomorrow (I know I won't).

Oh, that album is a ripper, Bottle! I think last time I checked, mine might have been the only review for it on the site. A shame, I wish more people would check it out. (the album, that is, not my review! )
