Awesome trip, I presume Clap What did they play? Did you get your albums signed? Smile

Hey mate, I forgot the name of the first piece they played, but the rest was `MDK' in its entirety (and holy LORD, the studio album is so tame and samey compared to the way the piece has developed live over the decades, no comparison at all) and `Kobaia', which went down very well. No, wasn't able to get anything signed, I think if Magma had been on second I would have had more of a chance, but as soon as they finished the second band (Sunn O) has getting set up, and it was pretty clear from the amount of younger hipsters and metalheads that the majority of the crowd was there to see them

^ Looking at setlists online it's "Theusz Hamtaahk"? From which album is that track? Ermm Good to know "MDK" wasn't 30 minutes of boredom LOL Yeah, it can be difficult if most people are not interested... and that's a really odd choice of bands Tongue It's impressive how in less than a year they completely changed the setlist and their music is so complex Clap

Today:
Mona Lisa - Le Petit Violon de Mr. Grégoire
Budda Power Blues - s/t
Forbidden Planet - From the Bedroom to Oblivion: Two Decades of Obscurity
Salto - Passeio das Virtudes
Lou Donaldson - Alligator Bogaloo

I'm pretty sure Stella Vander said that it was `a combination of two pieces'...it went for about twenty five minutes, though. Some parts of it I recognized.

Apparently the guitar player was a last minute ring-in. I honestly thought he could barely be heard at all. The keyboard player was a younger fella too.

I have that Mona Lisa album, but for the life of me I can't remember a note of it, I really should give it another spin. Is it any good?

I found this on Wikipedia:
Quote "Theusz Hamtaahk", had already been part of Magma's live repertoire since the mid-1970s and was first recorded "live" in a London BBC studio session in 1974, but was not released on record until the 1981 live album Retrospektiw (Parts I+II), recorded in 1980.

I never heard of it before... but I don't know them well either Embarrassed

Maybe he was not supposed to be heard because of that Tongue

At first listen, I didn't like that one and the next much, it's similar to Ange but it's not as good... and I think the vocals are annoying Ermm

Gary how do you feel about this album?
Personally I would rate it as their second best after the debut Sahara, but very very close in quality.

^  This was my first listen to any of their albums but I'm a fan now. There's a really good variety of styles on this album from mellow to orchestral to hard rock with growling vocals (the growling is kept to a minimum).
I like the Oriental/Mid East accent since I'm already a fan of Myrath and Triana.
Plus, the overall sound quality is excellent.

(I will definitely listen to Sahara today)

I'm glad you liked it! I personally have a problem with long albums but this one doesn't feel long at all.
With Orphaned Land you can't go wrong with any of their first 4 actually, the debut is a little different, heavier and not as smooth as Orwarrior but filled with amazing riffs and great playing, the sound quality is not as slick as newer productions but still ok I guess, this one will probably be less accessible but once you'll crack that one you'll be in for a real treat, it is a really emotional and soulful album despite it's extreme heaviness, hope you'll dig it!

^  I listened to a little bit of Sahara and it is definitely heavier. Then I listened to All Is One from beginning to end and the quality of the newer material is easy to hear. I would like to buy some vinyl but it's pricey and most that I've found is outside the US so shipping is expensive. I'll keep looking.
