Assaf, I was tempted to buy an album from Wayside for $4, by Forever Einstein, but they had no information about them, so I didn't... can you enlighten me as to their sound?

I also came across some space rock band from Hungary today on eBay... apparently their influenced by Amon Duul (the first band) and Hawkwind... I know they're probably not Avant-prog or RIO, but I was just curious... let me find out what they were called again!

Vágtázó Halottkémek

The album in question is Hammering on the Gates of Nothingness, their second album from 1992.

They have their albums listed on Rate Your Music.

I'm just curious if anyone is remotely familiar with them?

I don't think you can do wrong with a Forever Einstein CD for $4. For me they lay somewhere in between the boundries of Blast, Bone and Docter Nerve. I'm not sure if that is going to be helping somewhat, but they are a very electric band incorparating a sea of influences making the band quite hard to pin down. Which album is it is question? Truthfully I don't think you can to to wrong for such a little price. Have you listened to the sound excerts in Cuneiform? Might be for the best, it should at least give you some ideas.

With Vágtázó Halottkémek I have heard of this before shifting through some Scandinavian lists on Rate your music and became interested. I have also come across the name via one of Julian Copes reviews of the band, but I think you will find this is the 1991 album,(I cannot remember if this is the one you were asking about), but this review should give  a little idea about what the band sounds like. For those who don't know Julians Cope's work he is a huge lover of Krautrock and a lot of underground music, yet shuns the progressive rock scene. Anyway here is the link to the review:

Hope this helps, James.

Thanks Adam!

My brother once met Julian Cope actually, when he came into a Camera shop where my brother was working at the time.  He lives locally to me I believe.  I don't know any of his music though.

I did read some of that review, yes, but I'm still not sure... I can't go wrong for the price they're offering for it though, so if there are no bids in a few days time, I may put a bid in.

No worries James, I too have never heard any of his works. Might do some sampling soon.

Assaf, I know of one those bands on that list very well. The band in mention is Lightning Bolt. They are a noise rock outfit who I find take a lot of their sound from the harsh noise of bands like Ruins. I have their lastest three offerings:

All of which a nice albums, though they don't have much varying patterns throughout. They have found their sound and contiune on a good thing. I have also seen the be band live, and this is was a concert never to forget. LOUD is not a strong enough word. Seriously by about three quaters of the way through the concert it was starting to get physically painfull. They come of the same music area as Black Dice (from memory), and if we were to consider lightning Bolt it this would have to another band to have a think about.

The group is called Ec Nudes.

Great group, they were. The Nudes come in two different flavors - first incarnation was the Pale Nudes, apparently there was some problem with their name, which was subsequently changed to (ec) Nudes. It's  smart rock music. Highly recommended is "Soul Come Home" and "Wise to the Heat" - the third album, "Vanishing Point", is on ReR and is grittier. Amy Denio's voice, mostly, w/ accordian, drums, guitar (fantastic player), and bass.

Find 'em if you can, they're definitely worth investigating.

@ Adam - I think Black Dice should be considered as well. Good noise LOL

@ James - Since OOIOO are now cleared for addition and you seem very enthusiastic about adding them, I was wondering if you'd lolike to prepare their addition (bio, disco etc) and I will have you accredited for it?

@ Markj - Nudes will definitely be on my next purchse. What do you think of other Amy Denio's projects?

I'll see what I can do, Assaf, thanks for the thumbs up in my direction!  The discography shouldn't be too hard and I'll write my own bio, instead of using one already written.

I only lack their debut now, so I have no idea what that sounds like.

As I said, I'll sort something out as soon as I can!  Thanks again.

I'm one of Amy's biggest fans (9' tall and 1400 pounds) -- and will pick up anything she's on, just to see what she's up to - but the Nudes are a good start. Her earlier group, Tone Dogs, was also quite clever - Ankety Low Day is the one to find, although Early Middle Years ain't bad, either. She's done SO much stuff - there's a nice CD of music that she did for a dance troupe in Seattle, I forget the title - and the one Danubians disk (there's a lot of overlap of players in these recordings) - they're all worth investigating.

I recently bought a secondhand copy of "Peggy Suicide" in Dublin for only € 5,-. It's a great album. Very moving music and also experimental at times. There's not as much Krautrock influence as you might expect (as he loves that music so much), but "Peggy Suicide" makes for a great listen. I think I would describe it as very moving, delicate and inspired alternative/underground pop/rock.

Recommended! Clap

What about his band The Teardrop Explodes?  I think they were more commercial, but I don't know any of their output, so I was curious?  I saw some Julian Cope on eBay I think.

I received a note earlier from a fellow OOIOO fan telling me check out a band called "OLAibi".  Is anyone aware of them, as I'm curious?

I have received my order from Wayside (Cuneiform) and it includes:
French TV - The Violence of Amateurs
Hamster Theatre - The Public Execution of Mr. Personality
Boud Deun - Astronomy Made Easy
Otolithen - S.O.D.
Kombinat M - Hybrid Beat
Forever Einstein - Artificial Horizon, Opportunity Crosses the Bridge

Regarding the 3 last bands - they are not on PA, but Kombinat M has been cleared for addition. I really like their album and I want to add them. However information is scarce and I have found little sites on the web to help me at that. Beyond the info on the band itself I found the site of Lukas Ligeti, their drummer who also works on various other projects - http://lukasligeti.com/
I will see what I can come up with for their biography, but I am afraid it will be minimal. If anyone of you has information aboubt this band, could you post it here or PM me? Thanks
The other two bands should also be added here. We will need to vote on them first of course. (I mean Forever Einstein and Otolithen).

In the Cuneiform website you can have some more info about those:
http://www.cuneiformrecords.com/bandshtml/otolithen.html

Well in regards to Forever Einstein and Otolithen, I have an album by each band on order from Wayside as well, so I'll definitely be able to give you feedback soon.

I was going to get the Hamster Theatre album too, but it was a little more money, so I shall get it at a later date.

As mentioned above, I have now found out about the Japanese band OLAibi.  It seems the band consists of members of Boredoms and OOIOO, so they sound promising.

The last.fm page for them is here: http://www.last.fm/music/OLAibi

I shall try and find out further information soon.

Assaf, I am going to make a start on that OOIOO biography soon and once they've been added, I'll be able to add the albums as well, so let me know!

Send me your bio when you are done and then I will be able to add it.

Listening to French TV - The Violence of Amateurs now and it is simply excellent - energetic and mingles in Canterbury, RIO, ordinary rock solo's and then some... And I ain't even in the third track yet...

After seeing your numerous mentions of them as of late, I think of buying it.
How do I go about doing that?
Where can I obtain a copy?
