Ayreon's new album will feature former PT drummer Chris Maitland, apparently.

Just so you guys know.

I will, actually.  Not a big fan of Grolsch.  Still watch out for Robert, though, I don't think he'd be choosy.  Tongue

Shocked  I have standards!  And I don't drink Grolsch anyhow.  It's more than 10 dollars.  LOL

Man, what the hell?

I simply can't stand this anymore. Again, I love Meshuggah, Opeth, and others, but this is simply not working for me. I'll try it another day I suppose.

That hardly ever happens where I have to stop an album like that.

I can't even get into them.  Oh well.

I couldn't get into Meshuggah for about 3 years if I must be honest.
The first time I heard them, it was horrible.
But obviously as you can see now, I'm really big on extreme metal, and 3 years later, I really began liking Meshuggah.
So it may come to you later down the track, but don't force on yourself.

Agreed.  I could certainly recognize the skill, though, Haake is freaking ridiculous.

Haake is an absolute monster, he makes Mike Portnoy look like a beginner.
Although, to be honest, I think Portnoy's skill is often rated too high for what it is anywayTongue

I feel you have to be a drummer to understand some aspects of Portnoy's fame.

Sure, he's not my favorite and he isn't the greatest, but some of his techniques ARE really amazing. I absolutely love his earlier work with DT especially.

As I've told you before, the main problem with Portnoy is that he's gotten lazy over the last couple years. Petrucci on the other hand has at least progressed his technique, whereas Portnoy's stayed relatively the same on the last few albums.

He's still a good drummer, no doubt, but laziness killed him.
Petrucci is just stupidly good technique wise now, but if I must be honest, he usually isn't in my top 10 favorite soloists.
Most days I actually rank Akerfeldt more, I dunno, I just really love Akerfeldt's soloing, never over the top, but still great technique and he always chooses the right notes.

And well, as much as you guys might be shocked to hear this from me, but I think Petrucci's soloing has gotten a bit too noodly in recent years.

I'm not shocked at all. To be honest, I agree with you. I can't listen to DT's latest 2 albums anymore mainly for that reason.

Prog Metal is hated at PA.
And many people just pretend Tech/Extreme and Post/Experimental don't exist.
I prefer both Tech/Extreme and Post/Experimental to Prog Metal nowadays.

I know Ayreon is apparently one of Prog Metal's big shots and I'm on the Prog Metal Team and all.......but honestly, I never understood the appeal.
It never got me excited.

And well, PoS, I don't like anywhere near as much as I hoped I would, I was disappointed by them, but I've been told I should give them more time and they might grow on me, because at least they sound very unique.

24 Bottles of Grolsch for something like £6 per 4-box.

Not bad.

Actually they were cheaper than that.  I think it maybe £12 for all 24... will have to check.

So that's cheaper than $10 (I mean for a pack of 4)

Yep, pretty much David.
Octavarium and Systematic Chaos not only had very bland songwriting (but I will admit at least Systematic Chaos has 2 songs I really enjoy enough to listen to again and again), but I'm sick of the noodly solos.
I know how talented Rudess truly is, the man can play much more than that same noodly crap each time.
And Petrucci..............well, remember solos like the solo from "The Spirit Carries On"?
That solo is so memorable you can almost hum it, not noodly at all, and is just one of the best solos from Petrucci.
I wish he could do more solos like that again.

Ohh, I didn't think they were that bad to be honestLOL At least compared to Torman Maxt anywayLOL
But man, I was seriously disappointed, because I heard so much about them and expected to be blown away instantly, and it didn't even get close to that for me..

LOL  No, it's just that I tried Remedy Lane and I couldn't get anything out of it.  After a few listens it pretty much went in the trash.

Ahhh, well I wont be gone from PA, but I'll be gone from the chat room.
I want to type a bit less for the next hour, discuss some stuff in the Appreciation threads and I need to catch up on some collab work, I've fallen behind a little on evaluations, need to get onto that.
