Fail.
Meshuggah's main vocal style is hardcore screams.
But yes, Akerfeldt has arguably one of the best growls in death metal ever. He's definitely one top of the best vocalists in metal IMO.

How is that fail? Confused

I tried listening to the album TWICE today but I simply couldn't stand it. I even said I was going to try it again more.

I meant fail regarding Meshuggah vocals.
It's not subjective, it's fact they are hardcore screams.

But whether you like BtBaM, I don't mind, that's your call.

That hardly ever happens where I have to stop an album like that.

I can't even get into them.  Oh well.

Well, you can't like EVERY band on PA. If you do, then you don't have developed tastes.

Haha, there are entire subgenres I've dismissed.  Tongue

I can clearly hear a difference in the vocals though, even if it the fact that the singers have different vocals. I love Meshuggah's vocals and they fit the music perfectly, but the singer for BTBAM strikes me way differently. His pitch is different or something; I'm not entirely sure what's irritating me about it.

Could someone describe Batboom's sound to me?

I like Opeth.
I don't like Power Metal.
I don't like the growls of screamo bands like Funeral for a Friend.
Most metal does little for me.
Most metal doesn't sound heavy to my ears.

Pat may agree with me but I feel Guapo's Black Oni is heavier than many so-called metal bands.

I couldn't get into Meshuggah for about 3 years if I must be honest.
The first time I heard them, it was horrible.
But obviously as you can see now, I'm really big on extreme metal, and 3 years later, I really began liking Meshuggah.
So it may come to you later down the track, but don't force on yourself.

Well, on a much better note, I also tried another CD today: First Utterance.

To say the least, it was AMAZING. Hug

That's not very Alexian.

The vocalist from BtBaM definitely has a slightly higher pitch death growl, but you'll find that with lots of female death growlers too, so he's not the only one in death metal with that higher pitch growl.
It never bothered me, but you know how I feel about extreme metal in general anyway.

It's definitely heavy in a way that connects perfectly with me.  I need to listen more often to Guapo's other releases.

Oh, I absolutely loved it. I was expecting to hear a great album, but it was right up my alley. The instruments were awesome. The vocals were great too.

I could see that album quickly climbing my preference list. Big smile

Five Suns is heavy too and Iove that album.  Elixirs I really haven't listened to as much as I'd like to have though.

Yeah, maybe it'll just take alot of persistence. I find that subgenre is probably the one that has given me the most trouble out of any over the years.

Opeth was the band that took me the longest of ANY band I like to get into, so I'm willing to give BTBAM some more tries. Hopefully it'll grow on me; maybe I'll try Alaska next time.

Agreed.  I could certainly recognize the skill, though, Haake is freaking ridiculous.

Umm James, screamo bands don't use growls though dude, it's called screams.
Opeth is 'less metal' than BtBaM.
BtBaM is more death metal, it also falls into the Tech Death category (and James, you have this pre conceived notion tech bands are about guitar solos, Tech Metal refers to all parts of the music being tech, and BtBaM's techncality comes from the drum work and rhythm guitars, they had a lot less guitar solos than Dream Theater, and even some Opeth songs have more soloing than BtBaM).
You're not really into extreme metal though, so your mileage may vary, but BtBaM released the best album in metal in 2007 for me personally.
