I've always been poor with woodwork and electronics, just could never get good at it, so I gave up trying:(

Schecter is incredibly underrated.
I've played 1700 dollar Schecters that destroyed 5000 dollar Gibsons in tone, playability and quality.
The 7 I'm getting is Ibanez, coming next month.

Well, aside from having one good interview yesterday, I have another one on the 6th. 

Beside all that, my friend, who has his own web developing coming, is doing EVERYTHING for my album free of change.  He already purchased my web address, he thinks my music is solid, and he will be designing my webpage free of charge.  What's more- he's GOOD.

Well. Not really a true jazz vocal, more jazz/pop in a Joni-Mitchellish way. One of the songs on Fool's Mate, I only just heard it for the first time. Sunshine, I think.


I have the original version of Sunshine that Hammill sang way back in 1967.

I've come to a conclusion.

Metal isn't heavy enough for me yet metal is almost as heavy as you can get...

Although I'd say some Merzbow stuff is heavier.

Can anyone help me in recommending something that's heavier than metal?

I've always thought free jazz and 20th century classical were way heavier than metal could ever be, but that's just me.

Depends on your definition of heavy to some extent though.
Mesuggah is among one of the heaviest things I've ever heard, and a lot of heaviness to me is that feeling of being punched in the face and gut simultaneously.
Merzbow and Univers Zero (and some other Zeuhl/RIO along that lines), while dark as sh*t, doesn't 'destroy my face' so to speak.

Free Jazz always struck me as being way too 'loose' so to speak to actually sound heavy at all.
Heaviness, to me anyway, is about tightness really.

Yeah, I don't think it's possible to record guitars louder than Meshuggah, but I think James already knows about them. ;-) I don't know, though, I like screeches much more than crushing detuned guitars. Probably something to do with my tinnitus.

Also, Univers Zero are far from the most extreme 20th century classical music. While I am not as familiar with the genre as I would like, I think of several compositions by Penderecki alone that IMO outclass them.

That is also a good point, heaviness is also about rocking out, which is only something I am into in a limited extent. But I think heaviness is also about the most extreme sounds possible.

Meshuggah isn't really loud as such though, heaviness doesn't really correlate directly to loudness.
But I tend to think of loud as in meaning, an overly compressed mastering job, where everything distorts unnaturally and sounds too loud for it's own good and the dynamics get killed.
Meshuggah don't suffer from that problem, because their sound engineers aren't deaf:)
And you're right yeah, Univers Zero isn't the most extreme out there.

I haven't heard enough 20th century classical yet to be honest, but once I get a good assortment of metal albums, my next step is get as much awesome Romantic and 20th century classical stuff as I can.
I always really dug the Romantic sound, how it was less 'overly melodic' and enjoy it more than the Classical and Baroque periods easily.

Well I was going to say distorted, but loud had fewer letters, and then I ended up wasting more time over the confusion. Oh well.
 
Romantic is my favorite as well, besides 20th Century.

That's what I mean, Hamish.  I want music that makes my brain hurt, makes me feel nauseous and crazy.  Most metal doesn't have that affect on me.  I want it to be brutal but not necessarily dissonant.  I want to be able to feel numb but not unwell.

RatM just feel mainstream to me now.  Most metal does.  It doesn't sound heavy to my ears.

As much as I dislike Korn's sound, the bass sound is at least sludgy in sound.

Oh a this really fit girl who I know's boyfriend seems to like decent metal.  He was wearing an Ulver t-shirt first of all.  He likes Mike Patton projects (although thinks some of his compositions are often not right).  He likes Isis and Neurosis too.

Finally someone who actually seems to not like the generic crap that albums gets played!

Well different metal genres are about different guitar/bass tones and sometimes overall production sound too.
Bands like Meshuggah, or Opeth (while not as heavy, but to give James an example of a band he knows) go for a clean production job because the type of music they play needs that in order to breathe and to let you hear all the distinct notes in the guitars, which is important for that style of music.
If you want sludge, you go for doom/sludge metal, and at least on PA, that sound can be found in Experimental/Post Metal anyway and clarity of sound is less of a concern for some of those bands.

Sorry, though, I don't think there's any noisy guitar I could mention that you haven't already heard. Well, you might like Nadja. No, that's not just youtube sound quality, they really are that buzzy.
