Yeah, it's a difficult quest, introducing people to our particular musical tastes. Try mixing prog, free jazz and some of the less popular classical around, trying each separately until one clicks with someone.

I've introduced my dad to jazz, I played some Okkyung Lee, but nobody was to keen on that. I might try Shostakovich or Ligeti next.

Speaking of classical music, does anyone know of pieces similar to Gayane's Adagio by Khachaturian? It's pretty awesome, if I may say so.

I've never even heard of it, but I'll try anything once. That's actually untrue, if I see something like this:
I will not listen to it. I only made that mistake once. |

What, not a fan of Brokencyde? Anyway, here's the piece:

There is a piece of music the beginning reminds me of, but I can't remember what. I find it scary that we can identify Brokencyde by picture alone. |

It is scary. Their songs are laughable, but that's it. |

I've only heard a bit of his material, I've liked what I've heard so far though.

I have only heard two albums so far. All good stuff.
I'm going to bed, I'm rather tired tonight. |

I'll hopefully be making an order before too long, not sure of what though. I've been getting exclusively prog stuff lately, so I may go for some jazz and/or classical stuff I've been meaning to get for a while now.
Or, I could get mostly jazz and classical and pick up some progressive electronic stuff as well. That's probably the most likely plan. Edited by SaltyJon - December 22 2009 at 01:07 |

It is too bad that this guy has only posted once http://www.progarchives.com/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=6690 and hasn't joined our SR Clique. Thus when someones asks us who we are talking to online, we could say James, A Person, and an ImaginaryFriend.
