Oops, I lied in my last post. Yes is also one of my
favs. But they're still going strong. They don't need to
re-form. Too bad they can't get along with Wakeman,
though.

What's wrong with Wakeman?
This is not a rhetorical question, I'm intrigued as
to why you would omit the Caped Crusader. OK, the
guy's a prize prick these days, what with
his rightwing party political allegiences and his new
found preachy-preachy brand of Bible-bashing, still,
I'd sooner have him tickling the old ivories than
most, Tony Kaye included (loved his Hammonds
though!). If not Wakeman then I'd pick Moraz. I like
"Drama" but Downes can't really compete with his 3
predecessors. (I can't comment on Igor
Khoroshev).
It does annoy me, however, that Yes are currently
being billed (here in Holland at least) as "Yes - with
Rick Wakeman!". As far as I'm concerned "Yes - with
Bill Bruford!" would be much more to the point! [/

I don't know what's wrong with Wakeman, if anything.
I just know that Anderson has complained
numerous times about him. Perhaps it's Anderson's
problem. In any case, I'd love for them all to get
along and make another great album.

That's something I'd like to see!
Good thinking moon!
( BTW, wouldn't you reconsider to have Bruford instead in that lineup? )

I've got a bad feeling that you are going to tell me that Giles is no longer with us anymore?

Not at all! King Crimson is about to record with their classic line-ups. Within Robert Fripp’s journal, you take for granted that the historical “KC” will be involved in quite new adventures. Fripp itself assures that he’s been in touch lately with Greag Lake, Peter Giles, Ian McDonald and Michael Giles to tour with the original members. But that ain’t the end of this story! Fripp also has thought of the mythical line-up formed back in the 70’s, the very one with John Wetton, Bill Bruford and David Cross to perform on stage! The project will be based upon celebrating a new recompilation of the classical Crimson pieces with touring involved, whether it’s one or the other line-up listed in this bit.

BTW moon, have you heard the latest news surrounding the G3? It’s great news for Prog Rock and to KC fans. The G3 of virtuous guitar players is going to be conformed and leaded by Steve Vai, also formed by Joe Satriani – who’s actually repeating within this project – and… the very one Robert Fripp! The G3 is going to tour Europe any time soon, it’s gonna be a blast!

Yeah, well, this could be the chance for Fripp to prove what he's made of... and I totally hear you, and if that was the case, I definitely would like to see Vai and Satriani teaming up with Mr. Jeff Beck
In the meantime, I hope the European tour comes out pretty good for those guys!

Sorry Wayman, I misread your post. I thought you wrote, "Too bad they can't get along without Wakeman.". My mistake.

I’ll have to concur with you Vibe (I’ll call you that for short and if it’s o.k. with you) since Pink Floyd is my favorite band… My first approach to prog rock happened back then when I was barely 12 years old and “ Dark side of the Moon ” came to my hands, there I knew they were going to be my heroes and despite the breaking up, I think of them as a part of what I am today… It’d be a great moment within Prog to set those monsters back on stage performing, getting along, creating something brand new, something different to what we have listened to from PF so far…

Land

I definitely would like to see Vai and Satriani teaming up with Mr. Jeff Beck |
That can't happen. Jeff has too much style and verve, and is a much more original-sounding guitar player than the other two. The theme of G3 is w-a-n-king, and more w-a-n-king, so they'd need somebody else, like maybe that guy who used to play in Poison!

Well, we all are allowed to daydream...
( BTW, what he did in "Amused to death" was outstanding, not that it's relative in this thread, but I just wanted to say so )

but i dont think Fripp deserves to be in G3 he is not that kind of "Shredder" that can be in one concert whith Vai and Satriani, |
Doom, I think you will be quite surprized. Don't confuse flash with ability. I think on a purely technical level Fripp can hold his own. As far as playing a wah wah pedal and sweep pickin' at 160 BPM, Fripp is a bit out of his natural waters. Love to be there!!!! Maybe Holdsworth will play the next G3, eh?

Me too. I saw them both about ten years ago when Roger was doing his solo tour and Pink Floyd were doing their tour without Roger.

And I happened to attend to their concerts also then years ago, but separate ways... First, Pink Floyd here in Mexico City in 1994 when touring North America already without Waters on bass ("The Division Bell Tour") and a couple of years ago when Roger toured all by himself ("In the Flesh?" 2002 Tour)... but together, gosh, that'd be something I would like to see before I'm gone...

I disagree Danbo, I dont think that fripp is technicaly as good as satriani, i know the guy is a music composing genius, but what happens in every G3 is that every guitarist struts his stuff, with speed and very complicated technices, which i dont think Fripp has, but you know what? i hope i am wrong at this one

Speed & Technique, yes........ Feel, Soul & Innovation.... I'm afraid not. In my humble opinion, Vai & Satriani are merely re-hashing what Edward Van Halen was doing back in the late '70's - I have never heard a guitarist who plays like Fripp - be it spooky atmospheric ambient right up to in your face going for it, fret mangling (and all points inbetween).
I only hope the audiences for the G3 concerts are not just there to see heavy metal guitar solos (plus an awful version of Voodoo Chile as seen on the last G3 DVD), but are there to appreciate true guitar genius.....
I like to think that Fripp's presence may inspire Vai/Satriani to truly great things - don't get me wrong, I admire both of them, but I believe Fripp to be in a league of his own.
