To make things slightly more interesting, I vote for the Beard.

I like me some TMV every now and then but SB is more my cup.

Spock's Beard why are you even here? Just don't bother, leave.

I'd say the same about The Mars Volta, actually.

Spock's Beard are here because they make excellent music, are damned good musicians and are genuinely progressive.

I like Spock's Beard, they just don't hold a candle to the Volta. Though I can see you don't think TMV are 'genuinely progressive', which, whether you enjoy their music or not, is rather foolish.

This.

Also to say that the musicians aren't talented is pathetic.

If that remark is directed at me, where did I say that, pray? I said Spocks Beard were damned good. I didn't mention TMV's musical ability at all. I just cannot stand their style and, most specifically, their vocalist's voice.

Once more, someone apprears to be putting words into my mouth.

I cant put my vote yet, but dam, this is a hard choice...

I love Mars volta for their raw sounds and wierd tracks, wich overall is a great progrish experience.
Spocks beard is pure progressive, not derailing that for a second.

Equal in my eyes, and ears.

Spock's Beard by a mile for me! I love both the Morse led band and the D'Virgilio led band. I like TMV, but rarely listen to them.
A GREAT YEAR FOR PROG!!!

Ill vote for Spock's Beard to make the poll more interesting, but also because compared to Spock's, Mars Volta are a little inconsistent.

Both great bands, but I'm voting for The Beard.   TMV are certainly interesting, and do have glorious moments, but are a bit inconsistent. I am looking forward to a new release though.

Mars Volta is a fine band, but no contest. Spock's Beard all the way! Maybe I'll come up with 40 insipid posts so I can actually vote.

The Beard by far.

Way too many moments of yawn/crap in TMV's discog to vote for them.

No problem, then. I actually think TMV have a LOT of musical ability, but that doesn't necessarily translate into great music. Dream Theater are the most frustrating example of that; stellar musicians and I know I should love them, but their music never really does it for me on a consistent basis.

Oh no.

The Mars Volta are losing.

This is quite disappointing.

Tough poll.  Consistency through diversity or periods of brilliance through consistency?
