Hey Amalia, welcome to the site, have a great time on it. By now I think you may have noticed this is a boys site mostly, and you now know what exactly is a "sausage fest"
![]() Thanks for providing so much entertainment in such a short time. ![]() |

If you like Opeth, then
Edge of Sanity - Crimson
is a must have. Mikael helped with that album before Opeth really hit.
If you like motw, then Giant Squid and Grayceon are fun bands, and Indukti is worth a listen. Which leads to Riverside.
Mars Volta is a band to check out if you haven't. The two I like best are their classic Deloused in the Comatorium and the new one Octahedron because it's not quite as overcaffienated.
Green Carnation's Light of Day, Day of Darkness is a cool album.
Dead Soul Tribe's Lullaby for the Devil.
And a few prog classics that are not necessarily related to your likes but could open up some new places.
Khan - Space Shanty
Shakti - Natural Elements
Zappa - One Size Fits All
Harmonium - Si on Avait...
Quella Vecchia Locanda - Il Tempo della Goia
Bacamarte - De Pois de Fim
And all folks must have
Peter Gabriel III - Melt

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

You should get some King Crimson too; they're essential
By the way, since you said you have no money, I'd recommend just listening to stuff on grooveshark.com. They've got a lot of really good stuff Edited by Triceratopsoil - September 02 2010 at 13:11 |

I use grooveshark all the time :)
As for Agalloch, all I have heard is The Mantle, which I really enjoyed.
I was rotfl when I read the Progarchives Member Typology, it was hilarious!

You said new music ?
Check out Atomsmasher (electro-noise-avant-garde-grindcore) or Born under saturn (black metal meets hardcore !) Anyway there are a lot of good music to like besides prog : country, bluegrass, folk, gothic rock, folk, trip hop, blues, soul, funk, world/ethnic, extreme metal, jazz, electronic music, classical music, AOR, reggae, ska, tango, calypso, cha cha cha, punk... Just PM me if you want recommendations in either genre. |

That's good news ! To be honest, I still listen to prog from time to time but I am not as crazy about it as I were when I dug it. Anyway recommednations : - country-rock : Hank III -'risin' outlaw' (excellent, Dale Crover [Melvins] guesting on drums, and this guy has a hardcore band with Assjack) - gothic rock meets folk rock : Furyo (very hard to find obscure goth gem) - traditional music : Beatriz Pichi Malen - 'Plata' (songs from the Mapuche ethnic group) - extreme metal : Neuraxis (excellent death metal band, everything they released is good) - classical music : Chopin's 'Nocturnes' (Rubinstein), Préludes (Argerich) / Couperin's 'Les Nations' (Jordi Savall or Kuijlen Brothers) / Bach's 'Purification mass'...too much to name - punk : Misfits ' 'collection II ' (a compilation of songs released from 1977 to 1982) - reggae : Jackie Mittoo (a keyboardist, instrumental reggae) - ska : skatalites (everything they released) / The Specials first two albums - blues : Otis Rush' cobra recordings - soul : O.V. Wright's recordings - funk : SHaron Jones and the Dap-Kings (excellent old-school funk revival) - noise-rock/hardcore : Helmets 'Betty', jesus Lizard's 'Liar' - heavenly : The Sundays' 'reading writing and arithmetics' - folk : Gene Clark's 'white light' - trip hop : Massive Attack's 'mezzanine' - hip hop : Cypress Hill's "III : temples of boom', Beastie Boys' paul's boutique' - synth pop : propaganda's 'a secret wish' - electro pop : zZz's 'running with the beast' - tango : Tomas Gubitsch's '5' - calypso : Edmundo Ros & His Orchestra - cha cha cha : Tito Puente at Crossinger's - salsa : Willie Colon the player (a compilation) - world/ethnic : King Sunny Adé's 'juju music' - AOR : signal' 'loud and clear' etc etc etc |
