And anyways, until this very day I don't remember anybody blaming Banco's music in any sense, well, what could be the logical conclusion then? perhaps Banco's music is flawless or simply too good to be disliking it...and as a Prog-head myself, and I also find it almost impossible for other Prog-heads to blame it...

anyways, have you heard them?...what do you think of their best albums, don't know, the selt-titled, io sono, darwin, maybe?

I don't remember hearing scorn for Picchio dal Pozzo -- though looking at the page for the band's best known album, the debut, I see it  was given a one star rating by someone.  Mind you, it's not a very well known band.

There are many bands I know fairly well that I neither like nor dislike, but am indifferent to.  As for the original list of bands in this thread, I have loved all of them at one time but rarely play them now.  Although one might not care for the music of bands such as King Crimson, Yes, and Gentle Giant (since that band has been subsequently discussed quite a bit), I would find it strange for a real, knowledgeable Proghead not to respect their contributions to Prog music.  I thank those bands for getting me into Prog in a big way and providing a foundation for subsequent exploration (along with Focus and Gryphon).  What one likes, dislikes, or is apathetic to, or respects, disrespects, and could care less about, can depend greatly on where one starts one's Prog journey/ where those foundations were laid.  Though I've grown away from some bands that I once loved, at the very least I can still respect them and appreciate the impact they once had on me (and enjoy to an extent even if the music doesn't excite me anymore, maybe cause it's not fresh or because I've moved more into other types of progressive music).

Personally, I think everyone in the world should have a copy of Octopus. But in reality, many would use it as a frisbee.
Most people don't care for what Prog has to offer, they just go with prejudicing it, and with their minds already made-up with a oppository possition, or maybe it's because they only want straighforward music, and anything that's isn't straightfordward they inmediately and preconceively reject it, or even simpler they're too lazy to check it out, so that's why the call it "boring stuff"....but what's there to blame?, it's music, certainly good music...music won't addapt to us, it's us that must addapt ourselves to finally reach the understanding and appreciation of the music, we must "let them in" and of course enjoy it...Smile

I have to agree with the Beatles and Zeppelin, especially with the beatles. i can see someone thinking they're "just alright" or "pretty good"  but it doesnt really dip below that point. of course there will always be exceptions but i think these bands are the two best examples.

Anglargard's music for me is pretty good, but nobody will think the same, I remember some people blamed them for being "reggressive" instead of "progressive", maybe those who think like that are not really into Prog yet, or maybe Prog Rock isn't for them, because for me it's too hard to blame them, because it's Prog! and they're one of the best Prog band in the last 30 years, and it's certainly good and I like it too! It's a matter of taste and I recognise their importance to Prog.

I dont like KC musically, it's just not my thing. VDGG is a Hammill dislike and I dont like the quirkiness of Gentle Giant.

I echo your views on KC and VDGG 100%. My problem with both bands is Fripp and Hamill respectively, neither of whom I rate.

But I love Gentle Giant!

Vibarationbaby mentioned in the "Stuck in the 70s" thread that he found Anglagard (and some other modern Prog bands) non-descript and uninteresting.  And like P.H.P., I've heard the band described as regressive rather than progressive rock.  I like Anglagard

Each of those is excellent in my opinion, but the only ones of the bands that I know and consider essential.  IIt's one of my old favourites, and I can't specifically remember anyone saying the band was disliked (specific albums, sure, but not the band), but I do seem to remember some apathy/ disinterest being expressed about the band's music in general.  One didn't even like di Giacomo's voice, I seem to recall, and he has one of my favourite voices in Prog.

Looking at the debut BdMS album page, I note that a couple of people have rated that album one star and a few others have rated it with two, but no reviews to justify those ratings.  The lowest rating with review is three stars.  With the band's following two albums, many don't think them perfect either.  Whiler the early albums are conisered true classics by many (including myself),  later ones are considered quite poorly here:

Urgentissimo 1980 1.38
Poor.%20Only%20for%20completionists
(5 ratings)
Studio Album
Buone Notizie 1981 2.46
Collectors/fans%20only
(4 ratings)
Studio Album
Banco (1983) 1983 1.08
Poor.%20Only%20for%20completionists
(4 ratings)
Studio Album
...E Via 1985 1.53
Collectors/fans%20only
(7 ratings)
Studio Album
Donna Plautilla 1989 2.58
Good,%20but%20non-essential
(4 ratings)
Studio Album

The band, like many others who many Proggers consider to have lost their way, is hardly beyond reproach, and of course the early ones won't appeal to all Proggers either.

^^Yes, I meant that Banco's best Prog albums are great and blameless for most of Prog-heads, because I haven't heard anyone blaming them til this very day...

and those low rated albums, may be not that good, but don't forget those were albums from the 80's, obscure albums really, not easily seen in stores, and just like most of Prog, it was "hurt" in the 80's, but those 70's gems of the genre are simply unforgetable...

Someone will always hate a band somewere. I have a friend that listens to rap music and whenever I make him listen to some Floyd, Yes, Genesis or whatever he always says its rubbish. U2 is the only one that sticks in my mind, not prog but can't think of people who say they hate it but im sure there are people out there.

Quite a strange thread..... I've never liked any of the genesis albums I've listened to and my favorite bands are Yes, Tull, and Crimson. Go figure.
