was lurking.. doing my relistens..
I had wondered what you thought of that one Nickie... impressed and not surprised you knew it.. i've been surprised however over the years how many 'fans' of his didn't know that one. It also hits my proclivity for the dark and sad (one reason Bluebird hit me.. and still after countless listens..the innate sadness of it.. hits right into the soul and speaks very personally to me). Unlike much IMO in the non-Italian singer-songwriter class.. musically though is really what got me. It not just fit the lyrics in its dirge like quality but left enough room for what I adore about it.. the subtle organ and guitar fills.

Yes, it's beautifully and subtly done. Yeah, remembering so much, a blessing and a curse.

Haha, there's far worse in my poison cabinet! (And he still occasionally does live gigs with Palais Schaumburg.)

I think I'm ready to vote some thoughts The Hu - yeah.. I do love hearing the 'different' and exotic and you can't beat Mongolian folk metal in that. They get a vote The Covenent of Thorns - I really really liked this.. but I waited in vain for it to hit a second gear and speed into the top 3. Much like that Stephen Malkmus song in the 2nd poll.. was nice.. but it had a 2nd gear and rev'd into the top 3 Johnny Cash? .. oh hell yeah... but lyrically it did nothing for me. Grizzly Bear - loved both versions actually which means the vote isn't simply for MmD's voice alone. Really good song in which his voice just takes to a new level Holger Hiller - well that was interesting.. and no.. it did go over well at the office. I did have a beer can chucked at me and it didn't make it past the 2 minute mark.. .but you know.. it was interesting.. creative so f**k it.. giving it the 3rd vote.

Also, my take on it is that it was very different for me to listen to and way a lot more fun than the MRI music. The video was fun to watch, too.

I did have to pull out early due to pizza and beer beckoning and didn't finish my thoughts on some of the songs..
Sebastian - that almost got the 3rd vote... helped by not understanding the hell what he was singing (always a plus because for me.. truly gifted lyricists are very rare) and for one of the rare times.. I found the music interesting. the JJ Grey song... I could completely dig that... if not for the acid hit that was the Holger song I might have really gone for the bong hit that was this song. Very chill.. I could have easily killed the few remaining cells I have to that.. the Cake song... the one song I knew or could have named by them.. and it was a really damn good one but much like Jose's funk selections.. I want to hear what I haven't heard.. and the more exotic .. outside of my normal stylistic erogenous listening zone.. the better. Avarartium... I do normally love female vocals.. but unfortunately there is one style i detest. and that one hit it. Pretty good musically though

the Rickie Lee Jones song.. liked that alot... of course I could have only named one song by her previous to hearing that.. but that song alone .what 40 years later.. I saw her suggestion come in and said.. oh hell yeah i LOVE her voice.. and that did not disappoint.
two left and going to give them another spin before commenting...

the Brindisi song.. . I think a potential grower.. each time I listen to it I like it more. I think it is mainly her singing that is what didn't catch at first yet i like the more I listen.
the Jellyfish song - cute.. even a bit catchy...but a bit too jaunty and upbeat for my tastes.

Thanks for giving Jano a good listen. someoneelse person said, "peculiar," which fits, too. Got a kick out of his remarks about bonobos, etc. I like that she was thinking about the person behind the illusion (this is a real carnival act, or was, in the midwest, still as late as 2008, although Jano saw it in the 60's), implying wondering how much of the gorilla girl she had inside herself. I loved the film, "Freaks." Oh, and the acoustic guitar underpinning it is a little lost with the electric guitar punctuation (which works well, Marcel Anton is pretty known as a session player with a great pedigree) , but if you listen, it's sort odd and sliding, like slipping carnival music.

Still undecided, and will probably take until the end of the weekend to cast my votes. This round didn't do as much as the previous ones for me, even if the music was as always interesting.

the band is called Avatarium, it's a female fronted doom metal band from Sweden. I don't know why I chose one of their more mellow songs, they're usually heavier. Dare I ask what's wrong with her singing? I wish you'd try other songs and tell me what you think. |

you know.. I think it was more I thought her singing didn't fit the song if that makes any sense. Perhaps it would fit a more heavier aggressive style. pick one for me.. and I'll defintely check it out
