Ture, but I think I may like 8 better than 7, because it seems like the writing improved. I'm really surprised they didnt just cancel it when Duchovny left (presumably to have lots of sex)

I don't remember the individual seasons, but the show seemed to be steadily declining IIRC. Also, too many episodes about the actual story arc, which never made any sense to me.

I've only seen the first season and part of the 2nd season.  I bought them on DVD.  I don't remember how far I made it through the 2nd season. I will have to eventually get back to it, but I have gone on a Battlestar Galactica splurge, a Star Trek splurge, and now a Doctor Who splurge since then.

The only sci-fi shows I cared about were Threshold and Fringe but I lost track of the latter after season 2.

Fringe owes a lot to X-Files. Had the same basic story arc/monster of the day back and forth going on.
