So far I guess my greatest discovery is "Riverside". Still haven't heard anything from their earlier albums but this years "Shrine of New Generation Slaves" is simply amazing! Will make sure to see them when they come here in September.

For me it's been Riverside.
Started listening to Memories in my Head and loved it. Then went album after album in release order, and they went right into my most played list.

I bought one of their albums a few days ago in New York, I had never heard of them. The cover looked like some sort of electronic, but I now know that it's not. I sampled a track or two, and it sounded good.

My best findings in the past year: Transatlantic, Spock's Beard, pretty  much half of Neal Morse's projects.
Also realized there were many better Flower Kings songs than those that were on Space Revolver. LOL

Some other greats not by these artists that I've found this past year: "Harvest of Souls" by IQ, "Milliontown" by Frost*, "Amarok" by Mike Oldfield, "K.A" by Magma, "Visions" by Haken.

Actually. I discovered Comedy of Errors at the beginning of this year, but it took me to now (in July) to buy both their albums! Lol. Anyways. Comedy of Errors is a huge Discovery for me this year.
Just love their Neo prog attitude. :)

Riverside and Lunatic Soul last year...Lunatic Soul has rocketed to the top of the I Can't Possibly Live Without It list.

This year's real discovery: post-rock/post-metal.  Not prog (but a lot of it is proggy).  How I LOVE love love that genre!!! Some stunning music.

Whilst not a major discovery, I did this year finally decide to check out Van der Graaf Generator and 'Pawn Hearts' has become one of my favourite albums of all times!

I got another VdGG album, 'The Least We Can Do Is Wave to Each Other' which again blew my expectations, as well as some Peter Hammill solo work, in this case 'The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage', again an excellent album and I'm looking forward to collecting more from VdGG and Peter Hammill.

Congrats on discovering the world of PH/VDGG!  If you stick to any VDGG 70's albums you can't go wrong (though many would caution you away from "The Quiet Zone/The Pleasure Dome"...though I love that one too Wink).

Mining the PH solo catalog is much more hazardous.  He's so prolific that there are a few lemons out there...besides the excellent "Silent Corner..." you already have, "Fool's Mate", "Chameleon in the Shadow of Night", and "In Camera" are all great next steps.  Most of his solo albums are filled with guest appearances from former VDGG members anyway making a blurry line between his solo work and VDGG.

I have just purchased the following 3 albums 'H to He, Who Am The Only One', 'Godbluff' and 'Still Life'
I've only just listened to 'Godbluff' and I can already say that it's their best album. An excellent listen, I would listen to it again, but I want to listen to the other 2.

Let's hope the other 2 are just as good Smile

Soma White from Poland is a terrific debut as well.

Finally,  Days Between Stations -In Extremis .

I forgot to mention them, I bought their album immediately after hearing it once.  Nothing gets me going like some good ol' fashioned zeuhl.

I have the first three albums. I love the debut, and I love  Ceux Du Dehors even more. I cant really get into Heresie yet for some reason, probably gonna require more listens. I'm gonna get the fourth album soon, can't wait to hear it.

Definitely the right way to go with UZ, start at the beginning and move forward. My personal favorite is Ceux Du Dehors, in fact it's my top album by anyone. Heresie can be tough, it's been described as the gloomiest album ever made & while I doubt that, it is certainly at the darkest end of their discography.

The next two from their early period, Uzed and Heatwave are also classic, they then went on an extended hiatus.

They are actually back in studio now recording an album due in September that is meant to harken back to their earlier dark and aggressive albums. I'm going to see them for the second time at RIO in September and can't wait.

Enjoy the journey.

CDD is pretty mind-blowing, i've never heard anything like it. It might just be in my top 5 at the moment.

So is the post hiatus stuff still worth checking out in your opinion?

That's awesome that thier still at it. I would consider going to that concert if it wasn't in France :(

I like them all but then I'm a fanboy. There are two live albums (Live & Relaps) and four studio albums in their post hiatus period. Of the studio albums I'd personally rank them Clivages, Implosion, Rythmix, Hard Quest, with Clivages as worthy as the earlier albums, the other three less so but still good. Both live albums are excellent.
