Sorry to hear that. Maybe it's my mood these days but the CD really got me and I can't stop listening to it. I agree that it's mellow but it was really hard to expect something different from an acoustic album.
Do you have Unplugged At The Walls? You should get that if you don't already. I don't know why I'm having a tough time with L=M, but accepted the Walls and Piss Up projects so easily. I guess it's because this is (supposedly) and new 'studio album'. Maybe if it was a live gig recorded on CD it would be different. I really think it's because I view the whole 'acoustic' thing as being so 1990's. I will say that my concern now is instead of doing the original versions of "Out Of This World" or "Quartz" on future tours, they'll opt to do the acoustic one and not the original. I plan on going to the next convention and hope that one of the nights isn't an all acoustic set. Just sad to say that for the first time in being a Marillion fan, I'm not excited over a new disc.E

Really?
Well I hope it works out better for me...

Anyway, I've a great plan brewing!
After I finish high school, I'm thinking of having a gap year, staying in Canada for a while and going to the Marillion convention!

I doubt they'll ever come to Australia, so this could be one of the only ways I'll be able to ever see them live.

That would be so cool, Joel. You cannot imagine how wonderful these conventions are. I hear it's even better in Europe because they take over an entire resort and everyone gets to mingle with one another. In Montreal, it was still amazing, but we were on our own. We did go to a meet-n-greet at a bar called Brutopia (met Marillion's manager. h was rumored to show up, but he was still suffering from jet lag), and one of the guy's chartered a bus and took us all out to a place in the Montreal countryside called The Sugar Shack where we had an amazing meal and saw how syrup is made.

And you won't believe how great Canadian maple syrup is. Everything isn't doesn't compare.

You may be disappointed to know that Las Vegas is being considered for the next convention. I'll be glad to have it in the States, but would rather go to Montreal than Vegas.

I'm planning for the convention in either 2013/14, but I'm not sure which one to go for.

Europe would be very cool - A bonus is I'm learning French, so anywhere in that area would be amazing! Las Vegas would be cool, but to me, it doesn't really sound like the sort of place Marillion should be holding their convention.

I'll definitively give a try at Unplugged At The Walls.

I would love to go to a Marillion convention but flying to the US/Canada or Europe only for the convention is out of my budget.

It would be really cool to have a convention in South America.

When I found out about the Montreal convention, it was a no-brainer for me. I wasn't prepared how intense their shows are, though. The DVD's (as great as they are) doesn't do them justice.

All the great people and new friendships I made stands out, too. I met up with a couple of friends from the old Opium Den site, but came away with scores of other friends. Still keep in touch with them through e-mail and Facebook.

If you guys get a chance to go, you won't be disappointed.

My official copy of L=M arrived today. I'll take it with me in the car and see how it strikes me.

Bonjour Eric !  Yes, the Montreal convention was a great experience.  As far as L=M, my CD came this week as well ( of course I went and dropped the CD booklet in a bowl of soup....it's still drying out ) I like the performance, but you're right, it's not a revelation. IMO they could have done so much more with the arrangements-Interior Lulu and Out Of This World should have been stretched out ...I wanted to hear Pete do a tuba solo ( just kidding ).Season's End would have been interesting as well.  As a filler between albums of new material though, it will do for the time being.
Take care and have fun with the family. Maybe one day you'll take your little guy to a Week-End ?

Hey, Steve! How are things? You two need to go to the next convention so you can save our place in line. LOL

I read in the WebUK that they're considering the US convention to be held in the summer. Since my wife is a teacher, that would work out perfectly for us. Not sure I care about Vegas, but I'll go if the boys will be there.

I still haven't spun it for a second time. I'm just giving it some time.

Just thought I'd share this amazing concert that I found on YouTube, and also ask, is this at all available on DVD?

Thanks

Cold overcast day in Kansas City today, so thought it would be a good chance to really listen to the new Marillion. Put it on and still affected me very little.

Could very well be my least favorite Marillion disc.

I didn't order Less is More not because I don't love marillion, they are my fav band still in existince.  I just think they need amplification.

I had a thought after reading Eric's comment's that he was unmoved by the new album.

I remember This is Spinal Tap, when they play a concert promoting their new "jazz direction".  Just made me laugh,  not that Less is More is that bad, I haven't heard it,  just that not everyone should be "unplugged"

That made me laugh, the thought that one night of a Marillion convention could be acoustic makes me shudder.   Might need to wait another year before this " runs its corse"  to go to the convention.

Would love to hear from anyone who likes Less is More.  I LOVE Marillion,    kenmar

Don't worry Kenmar - you didn't kill the thread! Just a coincidence

I get what you mean - L=M seems a little gimmicky to me..

After a couple of relatively Marillion-free weeks (IQ & The Flower Kings have been mainly on the MP3 player), just reinvigorated my faith with a view of Neverland on the 2007 Convention DVD.

Just about to have my first listen now to Less=More.

Having seen some of the comments, I am not sure how it is going to pan out - will let you all knowBig smile
