Interesting stuff from SSS, Steve, with Martin Barre doing what he does best. Still wish that he was in Tull, but that's an injustice we'll just have to live with.

Well, here is a strange coincidence.

I have just put the new Magenta on, 'The White Witch'...

Also, over the past few days, I have started reading Malcolm Gaskill's 'Witchfinders: A Seventeenth Century English Tragedy' about Hopkins and Stearne's reign of terror... 70 pages in and it's utterly bizarre to the 21st Century mind.

Would you like me to send it to you when I've finished it, Steve?

Yes, please Jared. That would be fantastic - a fascinating subject I need to learn more about.

And to tonight's update. I have posted a review of the incredible new Galahad album, The Last Great Adventurer. It is a thoroughly good listen, and there are links to some tracks which if you have not yet heard, I know you will enjoy.

Video of the week is by Ed Zero, Alright! It's Repeating, a new piece of music ahead of his new album release in 2023. It is an interesting listen.

A fine review on the new Galahad, Steve! Thanks for the links. Yes, this does sound like a fine album, and I've always had a soft spot for this underdog of neo prog.

You will really enjoy the album, Steve, and in more exciting news, I am hoping to have an interview with Stu published early in 2023.

The votes are in! The judge has spoken! Yes, it is the 2022 www.lazland.org awards! Either click on the link on the Homepage, or even more conveniently go straight there via https://lazland.org/beer-news-1/lazland-awards-2022

As I have said on more than a few occasions, I am not a fan of lists at the end of the year, so I have tried to do something a little bit different.

The categories for the Lazland awards for the best of 2022 are:

Track of the Year

Those Who Served and are Deeply Missed

Take Notice for an Extremely Bright Future Award

Covid Track of the Year

Single of the Year

Of Our Time Album award

Short Track of the Year Award

Best Band Name Inspired By A Law Firm

Pastoral Track of the Year Award

Spoken Album of the Year Award

Ode to the Sea Award

Classical Reference of the Year Award

Instrumental Track of the Year Award

Best Guest Vocal of the Year

Tales From Topographic Oceans Award

Siberian Khatru Award

Old Farts of the Year Award

Channelling One’s Inner Trevor Rabin Track of the Year Award

Bird Song of the Year Award

Hammer Horror Album of the Year Award

Ballad of the Year

The Fletcher Memorial Home Award

Debut Album of the Year Award

Instrumental Album of the Year Award

Dystopian Track of the Year Award

Best Named Tracks of the Year Award

It’s Bloody Lovely in Scandinavia Award

Tribute of the Year Award

Forbidden Love Track of the Year Award

Saved from Oblivion by a Wonderful Track Award

Who has won? Who has not? Who garners a special mention? How rude can one be to Ian Anderson? These are questions for which the answers only reveal themselves if you click on https://lazland.org/beer-news-1/lazland-awards-2022

Enjoy!

In addition, the Ale of the Week page has been updated, as has Video of the Week featuring the late Tracy Hitchings with Landmarq.

Entertaining as always Mr. Laz!  As many new albums as I have listened to during 2022, I haven't listened to nearly enough.  Many songs and albums on your list that I have yet to hear.  I guess that I will have a busy couple of months trying to add my meager contribution to the PA list in April.

Cheers, Scott. Yep, piles of great stuff for you to catch up on, and, in all honesty, I barely scratched the surface in terms of the numbers of new releases, constricted as I am by being a one man band and working full time. I do think, though, that most of the important stuff (with a couple of exceptions where I politely declined to review) has been covered and the awards I put together over the last month were huge fun to do.

As I am off work, a bit of catching up on stuff I have neglected lately, so some more historical album reviews uploaded, 1985 to 1991. No great surprises, but some important albums from Camel, Yes, Genesis, Marillion, Fish, Mike Oldfield, Peter Gabriel, Roger Waters, Anthony Phillips, Jethro Tull, Yes, Rush, Twelfth Night, and Asia.

Simply go to the homepage and click on Historical Album Reviews and take yourself to "Album Reviews by Year to 2021" and choose your year!

Although Mr Laz has for the past 9 days been laid up with Mr Lurgy over the holiday period, that does not mean that all activity on your favourite music and culture review site has completely ceased.

I have, at long last, completed my transfer of historical reviews mainly written for this site to the new site, so there are reviews of albums from 1967 to 2021 on the "Historic Album Reviews" part of the site. Simply click on the button either at the top or the link on the homepage. This last week has seen reviews of albums from 1967 to 1985 uploaded - a warning to all that there are really no great surprises in the content for these years. As with most music reviewers, when I started doing this, I tended to concentrate on old favourites and material I was intimately familiar with. However, now I have transferred the work I regard as my intellectual property to my very own site, I will, moving forward, be adding new reviews to these pages and hopefully stuff which will be of a little bit more interest and perhaps some more obscure stuff to pour over.

Tomorrow night, I will be publishing a brand new interview with a major artist. It is incredibly comprehensive and a joy to read. Details to follow tomorrow.

As 2023 commences its journey, here in Lazland we begin the New Year as we intend to continue throughout the year by bringing you the best in music. And what better way to start the year by giving you a very detailed and wonderful interview with Stuart Nicholson, founder member and vocalist with Galahad?

Stuart's responses to my questions are so wonderfully detailed, including a great deal on the latest, superb, Galahad album The Last Great Adventurer, past Galahad highlights, side projects, and some incredibly personal recollections and his thoughts on comparisons with other bands and lazy sub-genre labels.

Stuart also provides us with some interesting comments on streaming. As ever with my interviews, I have included a large amount of music for you to listen to and enjoy. If you like what you hear, please do consider supporting the artist by buying the music.

Talking about buying, my commitment in 2023 remains that of 2022 - my website will remain absolutely advert-free and uninfluenced by major labels or other parties. On Lazland, what you see is really what you get, so please do enjoy, and thank you to everybody who continues to read and enjoy.

The interview is at https://lazland.org/interviews/stuart-nicholson-galahad

Enjoy!

Just read the backstory again on the Sleepers album, and exchanging the master tapes for cash in some open field somewhere! It's hard to believe that type of cloak and dagger stuff still goes in the modern world, but it certainly does! Great back stories on many songs from the new album too!

Hi Steve, spent a couple of very enjoyable hours going through some of your historic album reviews last night; sorry its taken me so long to get around to visiting your site! Reading the early Marillion and IQ album reviews really reminded me of the early gigs i attended and the great vibe of that time (and the great 'Garden Party' at the Milton Keynes Bowl!Wink boy was that i hot day.. got thoroughly cooked and dehydrated! all for a good causeLOL) Anyway, happy new year to you and yours, thanks, and I shall visit againThumbs Up

Hey, John. Thanks so much. Yep, preparing those reviews for publication on the site brought back some extraordinary memories for me, and that Garden Party really was one of the best of days, wasn't it?

You should enjoy the interview with Stu Nicholson, one of the survivors of those days, and there is also some fantastic new stuff on there.

A very happy new year to you and yours, and don't forget that if you are in the neighbourhood visiting the Botanic Gardens, let me know - we could meet up and have a drink or six!
