Funny enough I had an exposure of this Jack White when I was getting a lift home from a friend/co worker and that album was playing in his car. Needless to say, I was 'un-pleased.' ![]() I think that vinyl record would make a nice ornament on my mantel rather than on my turntable (if I had one. ![]() I have a feeling you'll be doing the same. |

^ I think Side II is the best song wise for this type of music...more bluesy, rock. It will get minimal spins for sure but when I am in that mood, probably.
What is real nice is the full analog sound from tape to vinyl, no dumba$$ digital compression and it was mastered by Bob Ludwig. |

I thought the album was pretty underwhelming; only a few moments of good stuff.

Oh yes, Brave on vinyl..........missed out both times.
Same goes with Anglagard, I would love Hybris but it goes for around 500 bucks......(did get Epilog for $30 in 2002, and Viljan's Oga, which is still available for $40 at Syn-Phonic). But Brave....... |

I agree....Side II for me is the best, not saying all songs of course. But again I am not a JW fan so I would hope his fans like the whole album. |

Just picked up LZ II and III from my local record store (gotta support local business!!). I have read everywhere LZ II was really good, but that is an understatement! This issue is brilliant, outstanding, LZ beefy analog bass and drums are back!
Whole Lotta Love just oozes with beef, like LZ should sound. Perfectly pressed too, not a whisper of in between track surface noise, crystal clear.....I may have to get another copy as I will wear this one out eventually...yup! ![]() ![]() Edited by Catcher10 - July 05 2014 at 16:06 |

I have always found the sound of my CD copy too blurry. I will certainly buy this remaster on vinyl someday. ![]() |

And now LZ III on the analog deck....a tad less beefy but still head and shoulders over any CD version I have. The detail and clarity is pristine and the visualization of instrument placement is freaky good.

^ I have this pressing of Zepp III - superb in every way. Even the cover is far better quality to earlier pressings. It's made in Germany.

I have their entire discography on CD from the 1994 remasters and I think the first 3 albums have less quality then the others. Maybe that's why they re-remastered those. |

You know things are bad when you have to remaster your own original vinyl masters...
|
||
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

The 90's remasters were horrid. All they really did was change the equalization of the original analog tapes and increased the volume...hence the stupid digital loudness wars began. The mix on the original tapes was probably fine, but increasing the volume level on all channels is dumb and did no justice to the original versions. I am super glad that Jimmy Page reissued these albums this year. Most people unless you are 50+ have never heard the original vinyl issues which are wonderful with nice beefy bass lines, full midrange and decent highs (it is rock music!). Most only have the horrid 90's CDs or low quality downloads. Jimmy brought back what these albums truly sound like and made them better using todays technology but retaining all that wonderful analog bliss. All my LZ vinyl albums are played to hell, I don't even know where my CD versions are and I don't care! These new issues are fantastic...and the CDs are done really well too. But this is Led Zeppelin, recorded to live in the analog world of vinyl...and its awesome. I understand that by Christmas he will release Zoso (LZIV)....I have started my Christmas list already. I can't wait for Physical Graffiti next year! |

You couldn't be more right. A lot of remaster pressings in the 90's are very compressed and quite crispy because of the poor eq'ing. Thank god for quality DACS and amps to 'facelift' a lot of these pressings for a very warm, vinyl sound that they so desperately need. It's always so much better when the artist or recording artist finds the original stereo master tapes and goes from there. Alan parsons and Steven Wilson are great at doing full justice to their recordings and Nick Davis is like the 6th member of the genesis band to me. His work is invaluable and what he did for genesis in 2007 was huge. The remasters are brilliant. |
